Abbas AliHello all,
first post here and I am a bit frustrated. We are on an extension and looked at the Vw Tiguan a few months back and it was taken off Motability. Then we were looking at the BMW x2 and that was taken off. Had another look in the last week and the ID.5 from VW caught my eye on their brochure, went into my local branch who told me it isn’t available on Motability anymore. Seems like the range on Motability was already quite restricted compared to previous years and now even more so that we’ve hit bad luck with 3 cars we have been interested in! Sorry but I was a bit frustrated and felt like I needed a bit of a rant! I can’t be the only one who feels this way? Incidentally does anyone know when the ID5 was removed?
thanks all!

You are not alone! We are due to order our next car in April. The amount of benefits sacrificed means that we are after something that we’d really like, not just something that ‘will do’. As of today, there’s nothing that ticks that box. Unless things improve I can see us leaving the scheme, which will be sad.
The ID5 was removed on 1st August.
September 28, 2023 at 9:14 am #234940The cars you mentioned, two are being facelifted, so stock would be short until the introduction if the new ones, the id5 is not sell8ng well, so that model has a temporary reduction in manufacture along with the Cupresa.
Have you looked at the Skoda Enyaq coupe, or the I.d.4?
There is also the kia ev6, hyundai ionic 5, the enyaq suv.
I think the choice is good tbh
September 28, 2023 at 9:39 am #234944You are certainly not alone in thinking this however, lets stay a little on the positive side as we don’t know what Q4 will bring next week and we could pleasantly surprised – OK maybe thats going to far but, its still worth hanging on in there!

paulyou cant blame mobility for the lack of choice as plenty of cars on their list plus its not up to mobility what cars are available theres a world wide shortage
September 28, 2023 at 2:14 pm #235001The range for U25’s is pathetic.
September 28, 2023 at 3:39 pm #235014How many under 25s are on Motability? No different to non Motability drivers, insurance prices, engine sizes and car sizes are restricted for under 25s in the UK

I would imagine there are loads who are eligible but don’t use the scheme because of the rubbish choice. My son being one of them. Even a BMW 116D isn’t available to them. He’s got no points on his licence and has never had an accident so he doesn’t pay a fortune for his insurance. Plus he could afford any of the cars on the scheme easily with his disposable income.

Also I’ll point out that there are no restrictions on what an under 25 can drive in the UK.
September 28, 2023 at 6:05 pm #235062You try and get a decent price for insurance for a 25 year old and a moderately powered xar.
Let’s make this clear. No one us forced to get a motability car, the person receiving the government subsidy can choose what they do with that money, but motability us under no obligation to provide every car model to keadors and every BHP.
If Motability gave 700,000 leasing xars, they don’t need to provide any more incentives over other lease companies.

What on earth are you talking about?

David McBroomHi there,
Think I might be able to help you.
Like yourself, I was on the edge of ordering an X2
It was a close run thing though. Also majorly considered a Mazda CX5 who’s interior was pound for pound just as high quality as any of the German makes. Glad I didn’t order the CX5 though, cos 2 years on, I feel it looks very dated now.
Also considered the Peugeot 3008GT Premium.
The French company just keep getting better and better. The drive though, is OK, although not on a par with the above.
So like yourself, decision made, heads into the BMW showroom, and just as I was about to sign on the dotted line, it was pointed out to me the car was only set up for Apple, and not android. Now I have nothing against Apple. I changed from windows to Apple over a decade ago with regards to getting a macbook, which I love. Blows windows out the water.
Although the opposite is true with phones. Andoid far superior. Hands down. So after leaving BMW showroom in Giffnock, Glasgow, I went straight across the road, and into the Mercedes showroom, and ordered an a class amg premium plus in Patagonia Red. Stunning car with sunroof, lush ambient lighting, an excellent drive.
No regrets…. Not a single one….
Supposed to be keeping it until Dec 2024. So I thought.
Then I went to the Motabilty road show in Livingstone a couple of weeks ago. Much much smaller selection of cars than previous years. My heart sank to be honest. Anyway ever the optimist, heads into the show hoping to see 2 cars in particular.
The Peugeot 3008GT (2024 model)
&
The VW T – Roc R-Line.
And they had neither. So just as I thought oh well, back to the drawing board, all I hear over my shoulder is a an excited 8 year old son Alfie exclaiming this is the one.
Thinking I need to calm him down, and as I took each step towards him, and the car revealed itself, all of a sudden, I felt the exact same emotions.
What was before me, was Sublime. From every angle, and when you went inside the car, it just got better and better. I then stood back and almost there on the spot, wanted to order the car.
Then came home, started reading reviews, and watching YouTube reviews too. And you’ll get it when you watch the reviews, and go along to your local showroom, and see it.
Here are some video links, the big reveal so to speak.
Cost
3099 deposit, 1995 Petrol Blue Matt, 1290 Sunroof, 565 Beats Sound, and 25 fuel. Total cost normally £ 6979.00
Then the following taken off. 750.00 govt contribution, 1000 partial deposit for handing back Mercedes 9 months early (new car due around 28 March). 400 GCB (good condition bonus) and £ 615.00 credit towards Petrol Blue Matt too, ad you can choose any paint up £615.00 for free.. So a new total of £ 4204.00. Wow!
An absolute bargain compared to the £ 6 – 8 thousand I’ve been willing to shell out before, and night and day better than anything I’ve came across in the last decade.
It’s ultimately down to choice. Wish you the best. Hope this helps.

Njoi. And only 2 rules. Lots of coffee, and make it a kid free zone, and please cast the youtube to your most expensive 4K tv.
This car deserves the best, as do you, as does you tv. Life for living. Good luck. And any questions out there, feel free to ask. Kind regards. David.
September 28, 2023 at 6:29 pm #235076David but, your comparing apples with oranges with the Formentor agains’t the one available on the scheme 🙂

Was thinking exactly the same. The one on the scheme is only 148bhp which isn’t a lot for the size of the car. My neighbour has one with over 300bhp which in my opinion is a proper Cupra. Mind you, he’s having loads of problems with it.
September 28, 2023 at 6:53 pm #235079
DavidANYWAYS???
Been on the motabilty scheme a few years now, and hands down, the Cupra Formentor is the best car I’ve sat in, then given a test drive. Life all about opinions, and that’s mine.
Good luck with your next Motability adventure. Take care.

DavidHi once again.
I know it’s the 1.5litre version. I don’t need a bigger engine. It’s the same engine the whole VW Group use, and if it’s good enough for a Tiguan, it’s good enough for me.
So, I’ll leave you to decide whether or not the only thing that matters is speed.

I was thinking more of the economy actually. I’ve seen posts from people on here with 148bhp 1.5l Tiguan’s complaining about running costs.

DavidThanks for your kind wishes. In an ideal world the 2.0l would come on, and give people more choice.
At the same time if you avoid the V1 version rrp £ 32890 (also on the scheme at £ 2899), and instead, move on up to the V2 version. rrp £ 35015 (on the scheme at £ 3099), the one I’m getting looks exactly the same, both externally and internally, as their most expensive model, the VZN, rrp £ 48270.
It feels more like a £ 50,000+ car. And fling in the Blue Petrol Matt finish, and sunroof, and add that to an already fabulous car, it’s like a gift from the motabilty gods fell on my lap. And I can’t stop smiling, or planning all the wonderful journeys this new car will enjoy. Cheers.

PaulDavid ,How you qualify for GCB if returning car 9 months early?I was lead to believe you lose that and pay £50 early terminatiin fee too.Maths was never my strong point struggling to work out your figures for the AP .Like others said if you are happy thats great.

Nice car David. I really like those matt colours on certain cars. Very distinctive.
Just a couple of points regarding your costings though! Like so many people who post on this forum, you have overlooked the biggest cost, which is the sacrificed benefits of circa £11,500 over the 3 year lease. You would also get the GCB if you left the scheme. So the true cost to you of your new car is more like £16,000 but, as kezo says, it’s your money and if it makes you happy and you can afford it then it’s worth every penny!

DavidHi there, this was the reply I got from motability when I asked the very same question?
Motabilty message.
If we agree it’s OK to leave early, you’ll need to pay an administration fee of up to £250. Once you’ve returned your vehicle, we’ll give you a pro rata refund of any Advance Payment you’ve paid. You might also be eligible for a pro rata Good Condition Payment. End of message.
And I’m changing car as my arthritis has got worse, and need a larger vehicle to make it easier to get in, and out of…. There waiving the fee, as I was able to provide proof my condition has worsened, and the medication I take has increased substantially, and I am now also on Methotrexate as well. So no £ 250.00 admin charge for myself, and rightly so.
And the car looks like it just come out the showroom even though it will be 2 years old, come the end of December. So I’ve been told there will be a pro rata GCB paid out too. And with regards to the advance payment, the advance payment will again be paid back to me pro-rata.
I’ve had excellent conversations with Motability throughout the last couple of weeks, and made sure each time they are taking down notes about what we have spoke about, and agreed on, so there should be no comeback now. Hopefully.
Hope this helps you out.

Not surprised. Cupra was today named as the most unreliable car on Britain’s roads:
