Missing parcel shelf – advice!

We are due to hand back my daughter’s motability car & pick up the new one in a few days, but we cannot find the parcel shelf (retractable for an estate) We took it off straight away (5 years ago) as my daughter’s equipment doesn’t fit in with this in place. Does anyone know what will happen? We’ve emptied the whole shed as we are certain this is where we stored it and am now panicking. Don’t seem to be able to track down a replacement. Please help! Will there be a huge charge and will this hold up the changeover? Wasn’t expecting to take delivery of new car until June (was told 46 week lead time) but has only been 8 weeks so come as a surprise.

I doubt it will be an issue, they are looking for dents and ripped seats, a parcel shelf can be replaced by the new owner. We lost a key and were told it wasn’t a problem by Motability. Have a look on eBay for the price of a used one if you are really worried, probably around £60, then ring Motability and see what they say if there’s a charge buy used.

Just to add/note if leaving the scheme you can if you wish arrange through motorbility to return to your nearest motorbility dealer ( any dealer any make) can return on a Sat if needed )

              Thank you,
<p style=”text-align: left;”>I think we will just have to play it by ear on the day & will like you say, if asked just explain we have no idea & see what comes from it. We are dropping off & picking up the new car from our local dealer. Tried looking on ebay for a replacement & like you say they are around £60 but the collection would be a 250 mile drive there and back! Certainly won’t be able to arrange that before the weekend. Thank you for your replies, I’m glad we’re not the first! Been a bit of a nightmare as my daughter has just got her provisional after all the medical forms, took months, & is waiting have the assessment for adaptations (hand controls etc). The long lead time would have meant she’d be able to have the adaptations done before the dealership took delivery & the cost would have been covered by the scheme, but now because of the surprise very early delivery will have to cover the cost herself. As much as it will be lovely to have a nice new car, it hasn’t quite gone to plan!</p>

I missplaced the hardboard type parcel shelf on my last vehicle, it was noticed by the dealer I was returning it to, I just said no idea, it must have been removed during the last service. Still got my GCB!

If its a retractable one, the chances are it won’t be noticed.

Ask Motability about a grant for the hand controls, I’m sure they’d help.

Have you maybe put under the boot floor?  Some cars have space to keep it there if you aren’t using it.  Wouldn’t worry too much about it though.

I’ve returned two cars without the parcel shelf/retractable load cover which were removed when hoist fitted, and it was not noted by the dealer when returning (still got full GCP) I still have the Ford Focus Estate load cover in the garage if that’s any good to anyone!
