Minor body scratches and alloy wheel scrathes – should I let insurers know

      First time leaser here, so go easy please.

      Last Thursday while on holiday, I noticed scratches\paintwork issues on car bumper. I don’t recollect driving into anything. Besides, the car has collusion avoidance\emergency braking as part of tech pack. Hence, assuming someone ran into it accidentally at communal car park overnight. But there are no cameras to verify this.

      1. Should I report this to insurer ? It is a minor scratch and likely the cost of repair is less than the excess.
      2. Should it be sorted only with dealer or can I take it any bodyshop near me, if I’m paying
      3. There are also minor scratches\marks on alloy wheels? Should they be reported to the insurer and sorted asap? I live in a very narrow street and very likely to kerb it again :(. Hence wondering
      4. Would minor scratches on body and allow wheels impact GCP?

      Thanks in advance for answers.

        Welcome to the forum. The scratches and alloy wheel damage that you describe would seem to fall well within the acceptable level of wear and tear that Motability will allow without affecting your Good Condition Bonus. You’d be surprised at the level of damage that Motability will allow! So, no, you do not need to let the insurer know. In fact, if you call them, they will suggest that if you are prepared to live with the damage then it won’t affect your good condition bonus. Smart repair companies such as Chips Away can do fairly low cost bodywork repairs if it’s something that will irritate you.

          @PS welcome to the forum.

          1. Should I report this to insurer ? It is a minor scratch and likely the cost of repair is less than the excess.?

          If it is only minor, it is entirely up to you. If you do report it the insurers will liklely say leave as is ,as it;s considered wear and tear.

          2. Should it be sorted only with dealer or can I take it any bodyshop near me, if I’m paying.?

          You can take it to any bodyshop,you don;t have to use the dealer. Mobile scratch repair guys usual offer a good service for this. most dealers use these guys as well so saves employing body shop staff.

          3. There are also minor scratches\marks on alloy wheels? Should they be reported to the insurer and sorted asap? I live in a very narrow street and very likely to kerb it again :(. Hence wondering?

          Again this is the same answer to question 1. If you did report and claim insurance would charge you The excess for each wheel.

          4. Would minor scratches on body and allow wheels impact GCP?

          If only minor, then no.
