In the present climate I doubt that we’ll see either of the so called premium cars become available, they can sell to the private sector at full price without have to heavily discount to Motability.
There are other conversations about this if you search the site. Good luck with your search.

No-one can say when or if Mercedes will return to the scheme or, what the AP’s may do!
I can tell you though, having been at BMW yesterday to have my car MOT’d and serviced, the staff there are just as much in the dark as we are and were far from happy with the lack of cars coming through, whether on Motability or not. In actual fact, I was told the majority of the cars they do have listed on Motability at present can’t even be ordered at the moment and they had no idea when that situation might change. All they could offer was to let me know if and when they hear of any change?♂️March 5, 2023 at 12:38 pm #213957<p style=”text-align: center;”>I used to be a BMW snob</p>

Why BMW and Mercedes? There are much better cars available than those, unless of course, you are a Badge Bunny ?
March 5, 2023 at 6:15 pm #213984i very much doubt either will return until their private sales collapse, and im not holding my breath on that happening.

@rogerwilko any alternatives would be welcomed

Out of interest, is it right to assume that you decide on the badge then see what’s suitable? Say the Ford Kuga for example, suits your needs but you don’t like the badge. Mercedes/BMW have something similar but doesn’t quite have what you require for your disability. By your inference you wouldn’t take the car that suits your needs because of the badge.
Motability is there to enable us to stay mobile not get us a lifestyle status symbol.
March 11, 2023 at 3:29 pm #214870@RogerWilko I would love to hear your views as to which cars on the scheme are better.
I have a 3 series and it’s a brilliant car regardless of the badge.
March 11, 2023 at 4:46 pm #214873It all depend how you look at it I suppose. Off the scheme Ive had both 530d and a X3 3.0d and a Jag xf. All with bells and whistles leather seats etc.
However it unlikely these cars especially in higher trim levels will grace the scheme anytime soon. Rather than take a low spec BMW 1 or 2 series, an A series Merc or Audi equivulents. In this case I’d stick to my Tuscon electric everything, leather seats with ar$e coolers and ar$e warmers that are also graced to the rear passesngers along with an opening panaramic roof to look up to the gods if the need arose. Or similar car.
Whilst it may not be as mechanically or the doors don’t shut with the same reassuring thud or the soft touch isn’t quite as soft to the touch of German rival s, it gets me from A to B with a certain level of luxury, at half the AP of a basic German one ?
March 11, 2023 at 4:54 pm #214875The big Peugeot’s are rather nice too. If you don’t need roof height the C5 is also quite nice, maybe not quite as good tho. The Tucson and the quashqui are good in top or near top spec if you can get them.
Hyundai’s new EVs are pretty nice but pricy.

My company cars tend to be what I class as these lesser brands and even though it’s free for me to drive my company car, I always prefer to be behind the wheel of the 3 series. My MG5 was a lot of fun but the problems that came with it made it impossible to live with. I will admit that the gap is closing, but it’s not quite there yet.

Is the X3 your own or was it on the scheme as can’t remenber?
My view as always been with scheme cars – get what I need for a midpoint AP as its never going to be mine after 3 years. The most important for me is leather, heated seats andteering wheel and a decent sized boot. This is begining to difficult to get on my next car, which may see me leave the scheme 🙂
March 11, 2023 at 6:18 pm #214884I have the 3 series on the scheme. At the moment it looks like I’ll extend and hope something decent comes on by the time the 5 years are up. If not then I’ll either take on a private lease or purchase something.

@carmad funny how irate my message makes you seem to have touched a nerve?! As you can probably gather I haven’t decided on any car yet, hence the enquiries. For your information as you seem so invested in my car choice, I have had a 3 times qashqai over the 9 years, then an a class due to good mpg, then now I currently have a Vw Tiguan. As you can see I’m not after and don’t need a status symbol lol funny how quick you are to judge and pre perceive someone. I want a reliable car and was recommend a BMW or Mercedes funnily enough off a male in a motability forum due to their positive experiences. But like I said above would welcome ANY recommendations.
March 12, 2023 at 8:02 am #214903@Claire maybe take another look at the new Qashqui E-Power circa 50ish mpg,
March 12, 2023 at 8:20 am #214906Couldn’t agree more Kezo I’ve read road tests on the e power and mpg is fantastic

Best to just ignore Claire. One of the negatives of this forum are the regular silly comments from people who dismiss the premium brands as being nothing more than for ‘badge snobs’. I’m never sure whether it’s jealousy or ignorance, but suspect that it could be a bit of both.
We had a run of VW Tiguans and were fortunate that when we changed 2 years ago there was quite a bit of choice. Having looked at the VW Tiguan, Ford Kuga, Volvo XC40, Audi Q3 and a few others that I can’t remember now, we went for a BMW X1 and haven’t regretted it for one second. I could write a very long list of all the areas where it is significantly better than the Tiguan that it replaced . Sadly it is no more, but the near identical (albeit smaller) X2 is, however it’s a smaller engined variant than our X1 (and a manual) and almost double the AP that we paid. My concern with the X2 would be boot space. There is an auto but it’s the PHEV and is over priced IMHO (as are many of the PHEVs now – you’d have to do the maths to see if the fuel saving, less charging costs, exceed the excess AP sufficiently to warrant the high outlay)
Unfortunately, I don’t think that the new X1 will join the scheme any time soon so, of what is left, I would agree with others that the Qashqai ePower looks very good and the Hyundai Tucson gets rave reviews, although the PHEV version is over priced on the scheme (see above) and the petrol model doesn’t return good fuel economy. The Mazda CX5 is a good quality car but, again, mpg lets it down.
Quarter 1 saw a few half decent additions and hopefully quarter 2 might see the same, but I suspect that we are at least another year away from a significantly better choice than we have now – but that might be a vain hope!
March 12, 2023 at 10:58 am #214942It’s hard to justify a PHEV at the moment with the imbalance between electricity and petrol prices.
March 12, 2023 at 11:13 am #214947It’s a pity about the X1 as it’s always been a great car and I would definitely put it at the top of my list if it came back on to the scheme. I do wonder at times if some of these people on here who dismiss BMW’s and Mercedes as being nothing more than a badge have ever driven one. @Claire the 1 series is back on the scheme and may be worth considering.

Still loving the looks, quality and driving experience of BMW Gran Coupe, it’s still a head turner, white with red interior, nothing on the scheme at the moment for me, and the APs are crazy. my lease is up in September, so it looks like a 2 year renewal. I can’t see the likes of bmw or Mercedes coming back, the APs will be galactic, just look around the showrooms. A new A class is being launched next month, according to adverts.

The comments on this thread are gold.
How my BMW X1 that I’ve extended to 5 years and drive to it’s full XDrive capabilities daily makes me a “badge bunny” or could be class as a “lifestyle symbol” is beyond me.
I’ve tried absolutely every other similar car on the market in trying to replace it and I can’t find any of the same transfer height with the same options of drivetrain or “extras” available (and by extras I’m talking about Adaptive Cruise Control and things that make my life easier by helping reduce the wrist fatigue that comes with push/pull handcontrols). I worked hard and paid the AP requested and I’ve handed over my PIP to the 2nd biggest leasing company in the world second only to the US Govt.
But of course, silly me. I’m supposed to feel like I should be grateful for a rickshaw and know my place, God Forbid I’d drive the vehicle of my choice just because I happen to be paralysed. SMH.
March 27, 2023 at 8:30 pm #216625Cannot fault our X1. Good ride, great interior, excellent engine with plenty of power. I’ve had Ford’s before and been happy with, but the X1 has been a nice experience so far. Our previous smax was brilliant for the cavernous space (needed with 4 kids) but now we only need to cart 3 around occasionally. I did worry about the lack of space, but the X1 has surprised me. We also were lucky that the dealership looked after us and wasn’t quick to try and fob us off.
Certainly once this lease is up, I’ll be more than happy to go back to BMW privately. For us the scheme has run its course. I’m grateful with the last 2 cars on the scheme, but I’d rather have the ability to be able to choose want I want and need against the now limited choices available.

I’ve had a B Class for 2.5 years and customer service has been faultless at two different dealers.
