Our current car, a Cupra Born, is going back after putting in a complaint over a month ago, but now we have four weeks to order a new car, but we can’t find anything we like on the current list, and wanted to wait until 1st October to see what was on the new list.

Does anyone know what happens if we don’t order a new car within the four weeks period please.

        Very good question!

You could always order something that best fits the bill for now and if something better came along in October, yyou could cancel and reorder.

Other might have a better idea having been in this situation.

its doubtful anything new will appear i cant think of any launches due. also how long will delivery be? are they going to allow you to retain your current transport until the new car arrives? what are you hoping will appear?

We are getting a hire car, which we can have for a maximum of three months, I have seen some new cars that are being released in September, or if some of the current ones advanced payments go down at all.

Cars can come on and off the list anytime. It’s just the AP’s that change quarterly. In my experience cars I’ve been looking at but couldn’t order, always went up and never down. There is always winners and losers.

Why not try and bag a bargain there is often some dealers offering discounts on AP’s some are often listed on here and or on a Facebook group MOTABILITY SPECIAL OFFERS where dealers list offers. Peugeot Barnsley have some even available now. I know some who have travelled to them and even they have paid for a hotel for the night if you travel pretty far. Or on the motaclarity site. Might have deals closer to you. The are limited though not like years ago. When you could extend your lease and wait for a good deal to arrive. So in your position, it almost like your a new customer again and could be in a new car in 4 days, rather than a hire car that might not be ideal for 3 months. Ie if it not an ev.

As for having to order, I guess its the same as if your car is written off. You need to place an order to remain on the scheme one the car is handed back. Technically your no longer a MB customer. So a hire car for 3 months or till any new car arrives is imo pretty good.

I have mine issued this spring and it also said 4 weeks period.  I am still waiting for an outcome of my ombudsman complaint, but I went on Motability website and it did allow me to place an order for a new car.

I’d be very careful here Motability seem more than happy to throw customers under the bus the minute a deadline passes.

when my car was written off they took 2 months to write it off then expected a new order within 2 weeks (over Christmas) or they take the hire car away then despite ordering when March came round they said no more hire car you’ve had it too long blaming DLM but we all know at that point it’s a Motability decision.

They reversed that for me when I involved the CEO but others have not been so lucky, they say here’s your allowance back until your new car arrives but that’s takes up to 6 weeks to process so no car and no PIP either.

Im not saying all this to frighten people but given that some new car waits can be up to a year then anyone can potentially be left with no car for a long time.

If I were you I’d ask what happens if you order a car and thru no fault of your own it takes longer than 3 months to arrive and get that in writing maybe vie the CEO office even.

If it were me I’d be looking at trying to find a stock car that meets my needs and is affordable. When I got my MG in 2020 I got that within 3 days of applying as it was in stock.

I really hope you can find something agreeable. Also it’s worth noting that models that aren’t on the scheme can come on at any time like when manufacturers are trying to shift old models we’ve seen a few manufacturers do that in recent years.

                  Fingers crossed for you.
