Hi can i ask how you pay your advance payment to dealership ,ive always on handover payed debit card then entered security pin then handover is done, debit card is so simple, ive just had my dealership insist on ap payment before prep car for handover, they sent pdf in email to make bank payment ,pdf never arrived on my smart phone, so manager sent me account numb etc in an email , then i made payment via telephone banking ,had loads of scam questions which took over 20 mins ,everyone needs be scam aware, then banks system for checking emg dealership not working, so bank said they would call back, we offered go into dealership tomorrow make payment ,no they said only take £1000 on debit card, this whole process took 1 and half hours of messing about to finally make payment ,before see the car ,ive requested a reciept, emg have been so good up till now ,its so easy use debit card, what are your experiances. Dealership manager said he had lots of complaints about this way makeing payment.

Had similar with my Skoda, refused to pay until I’d seen/inspected the car. I then paid by debit card.
Please excuse spelling/typos. Apart from being a clot it turns out I had one on my cerebellum that's now causing various problems!
July 4, 2024 at 1:07 pm #283934Tell them to do one. You’ll pay them once you’ve had a good look round the car, and preferably on the day you collect it.
I’ve always used debit card for the AP, as recently as March this year.

2017 - Audi Q3 TFSi Sport S-TronicJuly 4, 2024 at 1:09 pm #283935I’m on my fifth MB car now and the 5 AP’s have been paid via Debit or Credit card and only one insisted on the payment a day before handover so that got my Credit card for sure for the inbuilt insurance that comes with CC cards.
July 4, 2024 at 1:10 pm #283936With the Advance Payments being in the thousands more and more dealerships are asking for bank transfer as they will be charged to take money on a debit card, while it will be much less than a credit card they will still be charged. If I recall the last time i had to negotiate this it was around 3% for a Debit and 6% for a credit card.
July 4, 2024 at 1:31 pm #283940The garage sent me an email so I paid using my credit card
July 4, 2024 at 1:47 pm #283941Yes emg kia have been so good up until now ,ive paid it now. Its soured what was brillient relationship. Lets hope car is correct.
July 4, 2024 at 2:27 pm #283942Emg manager told me they had ,had complaints from other customers about this payment method ,easpecially like me who use smart phone not desktop computer , 90 mins i spent on phone to my bank getting through scam questions then their system went down, i hope the car is exactly as i ordered , my last mercedes was complete cockup handover, the manager said well we dont want lose you as customer, i think he has ,was going so well, surely they understand customer wants see before payment, EMG GROUP BEWARE.
July 4, 2024 at 2:27 pm #283943Really grips me when they ask you to pay thousands up front site unseen, contrary to MB instructions.
Would they pay thousands site unseen for something, I doubt it, why they consider we can is beyond me!
Biggest thing we have is voting with our feet, I have politely had to remind one or two dealerships about that.
After all, explaining that they are throwing away up to £50k worth of business because they want payment prior to sale.
There payment problems are between them and the banks nowt to do with us. We need security to.
July 4, 2024 at 2:31 pm #283944Visited the dealer to view car prior to sending bank transfer and paid £500 on day of collection via debit card.
July 4, 2024 at 2:47 pm #283945After all, explaining that they are throwing away up to £50k worth of business because they want payment prior to sale.
But they’re not throwing away £50,000 worth of business, more like £500 according to previous reports… and that car will soon get sold on to someone else or it’ll be Motabilitys problem 🤷♂️
July 4, 2024 at 3:14 pm #283948Wow, what new car costs £500?
It’s not motability scheme problem either, because nothing happens until you input your pin.
Motability don’t finance the car until you input your pin, then it’s payed by them and you pay motability.
You have to understand how important the pin is!
All the smoke and mirrors by the dealerships can be seen through if you read the purchase procedure on MB, also if in doubt call them.
July 4, 2024 at 3:40 pm #283952Things have moved on, this is from the Motability website:
July 4, 2024 at 3:42 pm #283954Yes interesting. Is that before you VIEW THE CAR ??

July 4, 2024 at 4:05 pm #283957Wow, what new car costs £500?
Your missing the point!
The dealer gets £400 £500 for arranging and placing the order on behalf of Motability with the manufacturer.
July 4, 2024 at 4:11 pm #283959Yes interesting. Is that before you VIEW THE CAR ??
Keep in mind that you do not enter into a legally binding agreement until you have checked the car in person and inputted the PIN, so whilst it’s a pain to have to pay the AP before the day of pick up, if you reject the car for any reason the dealer has no option but to refund you in full.
July 4, 2024 at 4:21 pm #283960Yes ,interaction with car dealerships is not a thing i want to do alot of, motability customers in some cases ,get poor respect , on this occasion kia emg have been good but insisted on ap payment with no invitation to view car before that, ahh well we will go along next week hope all is in order, thanks for replies.

Ask your dealer if you can check it over before paying the AP.
July 4, 2024 at 5:49 pm #283975Paying our AP was the very last thing we did when collecting the car, and that was after it was ordered with Zero deposit
July 4, 2024 at 6:02 pm #283977Wow, what new car costs £500?
Sorry I wasn’t being clear and you couldn’t understand. .. the new car doesn’t cost £500, that’s the amount of money the garage makes on each car the deliver to us whether the vehicle us worth £15k or £50k
And they don’t make £50,000 on a £50,000 car either.
July 4, 2024 at 6:03 pm #283978Dealership emg said , we cant prep car for handover until we recieve £3199.00 ,
Anyway its paid and look forward to handover ,after emg being so attentive, helpfull i was surprised at this would liked check car before.

Don’t let it bother you, I’m sure everything will be fine.
What day are you collecting?
July 4, 2024 at 6:49 pm #283990Yes kezo ,wed , looking forward thanks.
July 4, 2024 at 8:44 pm #284004It doesnt matter what method of payment you made before.
But, now and in the future it is changing to Bank Transfer.
As wmcforum pointed out, its in the agreement when you join the scheme.
As Micky discovered, it is a difficult process if you try to do it your own way. I did not expect it to be so bad, but Micky pointed out the pitfalls.
I paid by Bank Transfer a week before collection, it was easy peasy. I just checked the car over on collection day before entering the PIN. No problems.
If they ask you to pay the AP a few days before collection day, just do it
It will be you that suffers the pain of debit and credit card nonsense. The dealership doesnt care if you shoot yourself in the foot. They gave leverage, you have none.
July 4, 2024 at 9:59 pm #284011Yes it took 90 mins in end ,a barage of scam questions she had to go through, then system bank use to check validity of person you are paying ,went down so she had to call back when it was functioning, few more security again scam questions finally payment done ,90 mins, oh yes its all for protection of customer ,thats how was for me today, not straight forward at all. But look forward to new car with no more issues .
