Could one of the experts on EVs tell me if I need a current licence to order an EV?

You’d need to have a named driver with a full licence. As for duel controls, I think they’re really expensive but that’s your call

Don’t think they will insure learner drivers, not even with dual controls, big no no by insurance company i would say

Of course they do its all on their website

                https://www.motability.co.uk/contact/faqs/can-i-learn-to-drive-in-my-motability-car

Can I learn to drive in my Motability car?
You can learn to drive in your Motability Scheme car. Disabled drivers can take lessons from the age of 16. Any other drivers with provisional licenses must be over 21 if you want them to drive your car, and you can only have one learner driver on your Certificate of Motor Insurance at any one time. You may also be able to get financial help towards the cost of your driving lessons.

My wife is on my new MG ZS EV as a Learner, already taken the licence details & accepted. Saving me £300 on insurance a year so she can drive
