Went into my local Kia/Suzuki dealers today and tried out sitting/getting in/out of a Niro and a Sportage.
To my surprise I could get into the Niro, I’d previously ruled out anything under 1.6m in height. Now it wasn’t perfect, I caught my right shoulder on the door frame the first time I tried it but found I could manage after that. Visibility was good all round, centre console didn’t hit my knee and the boot looked a great size. They only had a 2 trim in so no sunroof which is something I’d have to try before deciding.
The Sportage again was easy to get in/out, nice layout and a good seating position, boot actually looked smaller than the Niro?.
The saleswoman was very helpful and not pushy at all, all orders are treated the same, private or Motability, lead times are approx:, 5 months for the Sportage HEV and 7-8 for the Niro HEV.
I sked about the Sportage mpg as I’ve seen a lot of reports saying it isn’t great, the standard 1.6 getting 36-38mpg but she said hers regulary gets around 42 (non-HEV).
There’s a larger dealersip in Sunderland so I may have a run through tomorrow if I can get out and see what they have.
Please excuse spelling/typos. Apart from being a clot it turns out I had one on my cerebellum that's now causing various problems!
