Hi folks, has anyone else on here with either ionic 5 or 6 had their ICCU fail? My car has been sitting at the dealership for nigh on 3 weeks now and they still can’t tell me when parts may arrive to fix it! I have a hire car so am mobile but it doesn’t exactly fill me with confidence in the car. Luckily we were at families house when it went into limp mode as we left, so quickly parked it again. Next day when RAC arrived we couldn’t unlock the car as the 12v battery was also dead. Luckily I had the key blade with me to manually unlock it.

Unfortunately Hyundai are notorious for being really bad at supplying these parts.  The software updates have reduced the frequency of these faults but they’re still ridiculous at getting new parts out.

I’ve read horror stories about the cars being parked at the dealers for months on end waiting for the most common failing part.  At least you’re mobile, which is some kind of blessing.

The software updates to my knowledge were primarily to give the driver time to get to a safe place in the event of failure, as before it went from driving to a dead duck very quickly leaving people in dangerous situations. A software update is not going to fix a design fault unfortunately. Just hope they have made some changes to the new units to prevent reoccurrence!

Been reading a lot about ICCU just praying it doesn’t happen as my local dealer is hopeless. Can I ask what year your car was?

I have had my car off the road for 4 weeks now and Hyundai still can’t tell me when it will be fixed. I have a hire car which is a petrol Hyundai tucson with manual gearbox which was fine for a little while but is not comparable to my ionic 6 so am a little fed up! At what point do I throw my toys out the pram and make a fuss? If this was my own personal car I would be stamping my feet about now!

Although not on the scheme as yet

It seems the ICCU unit problem is also affecting the new kia e3 after only a thousand miles or so

                    I thought 2025 models were getting a new/different ECCU?

I just read on an EV forum that a brand New Ionic 5 N that was being readied for delivery also had an ICCU failure the day before collection, pretty bad when they can’t even make it out of the showroom!

I’ve heard folk wait months, Shaine. It might be worth reaching out to Enterprise my I6 was in for a bit and they gave me a GLC that was on deaths door. I asked for a saloon and they gave me an E-Class. I think they get mixed up with the I5 and I6 class as a Tucson and GLC are nothing like our cars.

I had ICCU failure confirmed on my ioniq 5. So waiting on the part. Only took the car in on Monday! How long did you end up waiting for the fix?

                            Hi sheena

we ended up waiting 6 weeks to get the car back, I did a lot of chasing and messaging with Hyundai complaints and dealership so maybe that sped things up a little but I’m not sure? The day after I phoned Motability to escalate my complaint and enquired about a mechanical termination of the contract the parts miraculously arrived at the dealers and the car was back home 2 days later!
