Topic says it all really, bit depressing for those like myself who have 3 years with no claims ever made to be subject to some pretty horrendous AP’s compared to the higher HP variants such as the price disparity of the BMW 1 series 116d £3399 AP compared to the £1949 118i. There are many more like for like comparison which see a huge gap in the AP structure. That was just an example, I’m not trying to slate Motability as they are amazing for a disabled community, however I do feel like we are squeezed out a lot more, I’m a carer for my dad and have been for the past 15 years since I was 6 and it does sting for those like me who are sensible to not be able to provide a vehicle a nicer vehicle (he surrendered his license due to his condition, so I make all the journey’s for him)

Would most definitely be nice if the BHP could be bumped up to 150 and an insurance group of 20, with the rise in electric vehicles BHP is steady going to increase due to the nature of electric vehicles. Going to be a rather weird uncertain future for younger drivers.

No chance they up it to 150bhp as the last increase was from 115 to 120

I do agree that the insurance group should be increased as there’s loads of cars just up above group 16

It is what it is and we all under a cap for bhp in some way.. It is just the way insurance is you may have 3 years NCD but insurance until you 25 is higher and some companies won’t employ you driving until you over 25. simply for cheaper insurance costs, which increases there margins..

It’s been that way since i started driving back in 1990, 30 years now and i don’t see it changing. My first car was worth zero really and insurance was over a grand a year, third party only not even fire and theft..

It was a 1.6l honda accord less than 100 bhp but was pretty quick for the day..

Most under 25’s are better drivers than the old too.

There’s also a lot more claims in general by under 25’s and also as insurance is free on the scheme they have to take into account all post codes some with more claims then others and average costs and risks.

I know my own kids that are under 25 pay a ridiculous amount of money to insure a car in the south east. So much so they have to pay monthly and that is for cars below 150bhp and the lowest insurance group possible.
Also they have massive excesses on their policies where on the scheme it’s only £100 if you make a claim, not if a third party claims from you.

Then breakdown cover on top, servicing parts it’s expensive to drive when you’re young.
