      Hi Guys I wonder if anyone can offer some advice.

      My 83yr old MIL is disabled and has had a nasty fall in her garden which has resulted in her breaking her shoulder and being admitted to Hospital last Sunday.

      She has a mobility car which we drive for her as she does not drive herself. The likelihood is she will be in hospital/rehab for a few weeks. I understand that we should contact DWP and Motability at some point to let them know. I have read it is 28 days but do we let them know now or when the 28 days is up as it’s early days and don’t know if she will be out within 28 days or for a few more weeks after that.

      I believe she will still be entitled to her pension etc but that her DLA and higher level Mobility component part might get suspended after the 28 days but when she comes out that would resume.

      First can someone advise when we should get in touch with DWP and Motability and also if Motability stop getting the £64.50 a week benefit  will they expect the car to be returned and the lease cancelled if we don’t know how long it will be before she is out of rehab.

      The problem is this is our only form of transport and we would need the car to be able to make daily visits to see her whilst in rehab.

      Any advice appreciated.

        Says it all really and all the while they’re making huge profits right now from cars that are returned.

        I guess they don’t want us to be making anything from it either, as we could buy the cars and then sell the cars and make some money. We know how much they paid for the car initially and pretty much right now many lower mileage cars even after 3 years i would say they at least getting back what they paid for them right now.

        Recently my brother drove his car into london 5 days a week for a year and sold it for what he paid for it, as he got a work van now and is on call rather than on site’s.

        Kinda sickning and part of me morally is so happy I left the scheme.

        Glad to hear your mom’s on the mend.

          if we had bought the vehicle new ourselves it would have cost £34k and we would have had a £2500 EV discount applied (£31500 net).

          Glad to hear mums recovery is going in the right direction.

          I don’t think you would have qualified for the grant on an ID4, didn’t the car cost have a ceiling of £32k to qualify for the grant? Not sure if that makes you any feel any better or not? Sorry.

          Amazing second hand prices, the market is bonkers.

            Thanks for the good wishes on Mom guys, it is good to have her out of hospital and we saw her last on Sunday before they transferred her to rehab in a local care home yesterday so we are going to see her later this morning.

            @dumfriesDik
            The ceiling on the EV grant at the time of order (Aug 2021) was £35k for the £2500 rebate it came down to £1500 on a lower value after we ordered and since has been reduced again IIRC.

            We have a copy of the dealer invoice to MB which shows they had the £2500 EV grant applied. As already stated by others they maybe a charity but they seem to make a lot of money out of the disabled.
