Face planted getting out of the car Thurs evening, thought I was ok but ended up in Durham emergency care at 2am!
Apparently I’ve lacerated a kidney and some other minor stuff!. Moved to Sunderland as their urology dept has a surgical team, took half a day to get them to take me!.
So far seems like it’s repairing ok without surgery, waiting to see big cheese this morning and see about restarting my blood thinners. Moved me up from ICCU to ward last night.
Probably in for the rest of the week while they monitor it with the blood thinners.
Please excuse spelling/typos. Apart from being a clot it turns out I had one on my cerebellum that's now causing various problems!

September 8, 2025 at 11:32 am #312434Next time park the car prior to getting out then.
Sorry, had to be said. Sorry to hear, hope it sorts itself out, not requiring surgery. Fingers crossed.

September 8, 2025 at 11:47 am #312436Just had a different consultant in, change of plans, a lot more bed rest, no getting up or walking etc for at least the rest of the week. They may restart my blood thinners at the end of the week and kick me out or kick me out next week and restart them later. So no idea when I’ll be fully up and about 😕
It’s very annoying, there’s a big sign in my room right in front of me that says “help yourself to snacks from the fridge” and I can’t go get them! 😢

September 8, 2025 at 1:51 pm #312446I thought I liked hospital food, you’re taking that to the next level.
Seriously though, hope you recover fully and quickly.

I ended up in A&E last week and then by ambulance to surgical assessment ward to another hospital. They did a CT scan and found out that I have an extra piece of intestine (1-2% of population have this) and it had become infected. I’d argued for a week with my wife saying, “I’m not going to the Drs or A&E with bellyache”. Next time I might listen to her.
Fortunately, I’m back home already and as the different high strength antibiotics are working, they decided not to operate. I’m also now trying to get my blood thinners to the correct level with the antibiotics affecting them.
September 13, 2025 at 7:05 am #312609Still in!
Told me I was going yesterday., then wasn’t, then was!4hrs later poor sheepish looking young lady doctor came to tell me I wasn’t 😕
As it stands there was an infection marker in one of the blood tests. They took more blood about 6:30, consultant will take a look and will probably be 1 of 3 outcomes.
1. Go home with masses of antibiotics
2. CT scan then either kept in or,
3. Operation to fit a reversible stent to stop the bruised blood or whatever around my kidney getting where it shouldn’t. So probs in for another week with that option 😕Please excuse spelling/typos. Apart from being a clot it turns out I had one on my cerebellum that's now causing various problems!
September 13, 2025 at 8:30 am #312610how are you feeling in yourself?
Look on the bright side, free all inclusive, able to stay warm, without racking up an energy bill at home 🙂
September 16, 2025 at 6:46 pm #312715Sorry for the delay in updating!
Surprisingly nothing went as it was supposed to, short version is got home Saturday tea time.
Had a very frank discussion with the consultant about minimising risks and situations to avoid and had to accept what he said.
For now I’m OK, not really doing anything, been out for an hour with my Autistic son who’d probably staying here for quite some time. Only out for an hour to collect meds and get some urgent shopping and came back knackered!.
Have to avoid falling (easier said than done) bumping into things (same again!) etc. as they’re still not sure why the kidney lacerated given the relatively low impact of the fall. He supects there’s underlying damage but won’t go near it for at least 3 months until it’s had time to heal and all the bruising, swelling and mess has cleaned itself off it.
Still allowed out with someone with me for the next few weeks, still allowed to go on holiday, again must be accompanied.
All in all given that had I not woke up for a wee and I wouldn’t be here I’ll happily agree to anything he says!.
So, I will be about, not sure how much as I’m still pretty banged up and sleeping most of the day (good old Morphine!).
Regards, 🙂

September 16, 2025 at 7:25 pm #312716I love the way they simply tell you to avoid falling over and bumping into things. Might as well say, stay in bed, do not get up for anything unless accompanied and wrapped in cotton wool.
At least you’re home, I hope the recovery goes better than planned and this is beginning to be behind you now.

September 16, 2025 at 9:46 pm #312718Good to hear your home, on the mend and in one piece. Hopfully you will be able to relax more at home.
Are they still planning to operate on your kidney?
I’m also debating, who spends more time in hospital, you or Mark😂
