MaccaIf the dealers you’ve approached so far won’t play ball its just a case of finding a Mercedes dealer who will.
If Mercedes won’t help at all then question if they are the right manufacturer to be dealing with, i.e. how will they treat you over the course of a 3 year lease, if they won’t help you to assure yourself that its the right car to begin with.

Donkey Oatieif you check on the motability website to see if it is on the scheme, if it is you should be able to order it……. If the dealer is a Motability dealer. perhaps call Motability and give them the info.

DebsI would approach MB head office and explain your situation, I am certain they can help with a 48hour test drive. Then make sure you dont order from the original unhelpful dealers. Fingers crossed for you

NoelIn regard to Mercedes, i test drove a CLA and had to sign the insurance form with a £1000 excess that i would have to pay if any damage on the accompanied test drive, others manufacturers didn’t even get me to sign anything just show my license.
It would seem Merc do everything to try and put people off buying their cars.

Noelseems the 48hr test drives were only temporary:

pauli even offered to pay for a days hire and what ever deposit they wanted , i phoned motability and they rang them and there reply was send a complaint to mercedes , well im sorry i cant choose a car if i cant drive it at night or the morning which are my worse times which is why i wanted the test drive as going from a ford kuga to the cla .i dont mind how long the test drive is so long as it covers these time . i have a spinal injury so not that flexible but i was surprised how easy it was to get in and out but that was in the day when good . heres the thing i need to order for jan lol ive wasted over a month waiting on phone calls then i went in and was ignored in the showroom after half an hour and the woman could clearly see i was looking for someone but still ignored me so i made myself known to her and when i mentioned mobilty she gave me the filthiest look going took my details (house phone email and mobile number and im still waiting on contact now)for them to ring me as she said they were all busy to me they were busy drinking coffee with each other chatting away
October 11, 2019 at 1:57 am #91082I went to a BMW dealer and the best the salesman would offer was a 20 minute accompanied test drive. I didn’t bother and walked straight out of the showroom. My next stop was Toyota, where I enquired about the Rav4. I asked about a test drive of an hour so I could drive for the whole time and see how my back held up being in it. The salesman excused himself for a minute, then came back and said ‘let us know when you want the test drive and you can pick it up at midday and just get it back to us before we close at 6pm.’

Dave hStourbridge merc never treated me like that I dont know where u live if close try there they gave me a 3.5hr test drive of an a class also walsall merc jacque Bevin offered me discount on a class sadly the car wasnt for me

martinowhy are garages test drives all different accompanied , on you own , 20 mins, an hour, half a day , there doesn’t seem to a slandered test drive , Its an expensive item(thousands of pounds ) we are leasing for 3 to 5 years.
i spend longer ( sorry my wife does ) looking at and trying on cloths before buying them, but yet car companys dont give you that long , its strange
October 11, 2019 at 3:12 pm #91192
PhiljbMartino if you arrange it through motability they allow you longer if you need it.
Turn up and drive dealers use the same minimum route for everyone.
Out first road test through the scheme was 48 hours

paulim in manchester ,im trying another dealership tommorow see if i can get someone face to face as it seems to me its discrimination as being disabled i need the test drive to suit the disability not me as i know in the day ill be ok driving but if i cant drive after a long day id be housebound as just me. im not asking for a freebie i offered to pay so i cant see the logic behind it as surely if you selling cars to the disabled you should realise they need special requirements and be able to accommodate it
October 12, 2019 at 12:37 pm #91312
TeddyAdmittedly a different car but I had a BMW i3S from Friday afternoon to Sunday afternoon from my local dealer, all they needed was a look at my licence.
Mercedes dealers always seem to look down their nose at you in my experience, especially at the one nearest me.
October 12, 2019 at 4:35 pm #91341I’m out in the sticks, most dealers here tend to check how much fuel it’s got in it, hand you the keys and wave you off.
Definitely a smear over Motability though, seemingly minimum effort and a “well, it’s not like they’re buying it and I’m not coining commission so can’t be arsed” attitude.
October 12, 2019 at 4:45 pm #91345We had two 20 minute accompanied spins in a C class.
Two hour plus unaccompanied goes in a Santa Fe.
One 20 minute accompanied spin in an Alhambra.
I wanted the Santa Fe, my wife wanted the Alhambra.
We got the Alhambra.October 12, 2019 at 4:47 pm #91346
MaccaMine loved the Santa Fe as much as I did, 3 years in so far and just extended.
Well if it aint broke and all that eh?

It’s certainly a car I regret not getting, and I would certainly be a bit upset when it came to replace it.
October 12, 2019 at 6:46 pm #91371
MaccaSadly, I can’t see it ever coming back onto the scheme. Shame because the current model looks a belter …

Paul,
If you can bear a short drive over to the better side of the Pennines, I got a reasonably warm welcome at Stratstone Mercedes in Huddersfield a few months back. The Motability chap (sorry forgot his name) seemed fairly human for a Mercedes salesman.
I only popped in for some brochures so didn’t get around to discussing test drives or anything, but he was friendly enough.

Just a thought as well, they are currently offering £1000 off some Mercedes AP’s – see the ”Offers – Post any deals here’ thread.

pauli went to sign for the car come what may today but no mobility sales people in the store all day and after leaving my details last time and still waiting the phone call back approx 3 weeks now well i didnt bother , ive given up for the day. im going to a different branch completely tomorrow bit further away as i like the car as i said to mobility on the phone what can i do to order the car if i cant get a salesperson to see me and i have been twice and waited over half hour each time , surely it must be part of the contract to have staff to sell these cars

Ive used them in the past and they have been good. Wasn’t motability though. Best thing is to ring and make a appointment.
Motability is low priority for them, which is understandable as it makes up a tiny part of their business.
‘’Bury has the best merc dealer in the Manchester area imo.
October 15, 2019 at 9:18 pm #91875
paulfunny you say that im of to bury merc tommorow as i want this sorted and done with more than anything else dont want the stress , ive had Peugeot, vw and ford so far and the salespeople couldnt do enough to help . go to a prem brand and they dont give ashit

MaccaTo be honest, when we were last in the market for a car we went to both BMW and Mercedes amongst many others. We didn’t even get to taking them out on the road as we were so unimpressed with them.
In particular I remember sitting in the Merc GLA and just found it horrendously uncomfortable, to the point where i told my wife (the motability customer, and so in a worse state than me) not to bother. We did get into both the Bmw X1 and 2 Series tourer, weren’t comfortable in either of those, and to be honest weren’t impressed with the quality there either.
I just didn’t see the ‘premium’ element at that level, although i’ve no doubt it exists at the higher price points.
For us though service is of paramount importance, and if that isn’t there then look elsewhere for sure.
The service at our Hyundai dealership has been spot on, couldn’t ask for more.
