Hi, someone recently replied to a post about EVs.
They gave a very good account of the impact of EVs and their true environmental impact.I’d like to read it again but can’t find it. Anyone remember it?

I think it was under the shock to the system post it’s in the off topic forum now
May 1, 2025 at 12:16 pm #304992Hi Kjid5, thanks for that. It is there.
I am getting an EV in a couple of weeks and like you I will be charging at home most of the time, which allows for a few expensive charges when on long journeys.
Otherwise I would not have gone electric. I would have gladly got another hybrid. My hybrid Niro has been superb but a bit too low now to get in and out of.
I am apprehensive about learning all about charging away from home and all the different apps. I may well be back on here asking for help.
Regards, wonky

It felt like diving into a pool from a high board changing to EV – and hoping that I’d surface afterwards!! But I’m a year in now and I love it. What is really difficult to convey is just how relaxing EVs are to drive I don’t know whether it’s the lack of noise or what but so many of us report the same thing it obviously is a ‘thing’. Which one have you ordered ?
May 1, 2025 at 1:34 pm #305001Hi Kjid5, roll on the next 2 weeks till I get ours.
Originally I ordered the new Elroq with a 60 battery. I then saw the offer on here for £500 off Enyaq with 85 battery , so I cancelled and ordered the Enyaq.
What is yours?

I wouldn’t worry too much about the apps. I pretty much only use Zap map & Electroverse nowadays and either contactless or the Electroverse card. (On long journeys that is, 90% is local and home charged on Octopus intelligent go.
May 1, 2025 at 10:34 pm #305012Hiya I’ve got a vw id5 I loved the enyaq but wait times were very long and I got an id5 from stock. Very pleased with it.
May 2, 2025 at 7:07 pm #305037Some Ev’s now have android automotive and for me is a huge game changer. Which has charging stops built in and how long to charge for and it tells you how much charge you’ll arrive with at every single stop on a journey. I put my return journey in also and it calculates it all and it stayed live for the whole weekend.
I think I’d miss that as much as I’d miss adaptive cruise control.
So really I only use zap maps or ABRP etc, to see what are the best options / cheapest CPO are on my route.
I recently did a 300 mile round trip. Charged the car the night before to 100% selected only tesla (open to all) in the settings. I actually charged on my way down and then on the way home at the same place. Car said 120 miles from home, I ‘d arrive with 10% and I did.
I spent 29mins total charging. 20 mins the 1st time, from 40% to 80% as no tesla ota after on route.
The whole trip cost me just under £26 and no issues or stress about charging. The cables are heavy though on Superchargers, much more than the tethered home charger, I have. But we find away right.
I’m loving the EV.
I ain’t one to get into the finer details of peoples views as why ev’s are not good or bad. Plastic isn’t good but everything has it in it these days. No other mining is bad but Ev mining is… Amazon forest is being felled to build a road for climate summit. So Imo they not exactly leading by example, I personally just wish they’d let people decide, than forcing the issue.
My ex30 actually has lots of recycled materials, Plastic and recycled jeans., Even vegan leather. All cars are made all over the globe. Is an EX30 made in Ghent any better than one made in China or a VW say made in Brazil. New battery recycling companies are appearing as now there is a supply, On a bigger scale than before. So certainly footprints will reduce.
One could go round and round in circle’s and then we’d say all cars are bad, getting a new car every 3 years is bad.
So being informed is great and then you can make your own decision.
It works for me on many levels and I doubt I’ll go back. There will always be an argument against or for anything.
What matters is what works for you best. For me now that’s a BEV after 30 years of driving ice cars. I’m not scared to rip up the rule book and go in a different direction. It is very different to petrol. But if you use a smart phone it’s not a big issues and look how they have developed as have ev’s and they will only improves as technology improves. Just how the ICE engine did.

There’s a dirty side to alot of stuff we buy!
May 5, 2025 at 11:29 am #305131With a Motability EV you’ll get a Motability Go card, which is effectively contactless with a little protection for your bank. Then get the Electroverse card and that’d be that unless you want to use the Tesla network and save a chunk for a monthly payment.
As for APs, I only use ZapMap for finding nearby chargers if I’m somewhere unfamiliar.
