I’m really frustrated, I can’t make up my mind on what car to order. Usually I have more than enough time to research the car I’m interested in but this time because the present car is going in early I don’t have the luxury of time. I’ve narrowed it down to 3 cars. All have very similar prices when packs are added to bring them to the same level.
1 Hyundai Ioniq 5 ultimate AWD.
2 Kia EV6 GTline AWD.
3 Skoda Enyaq 85x sportline plus.
All the above have pros and cons.
I’ve test driven all of them and performance wise theirs not much in it but probably the EV6 has the edge. I prefer the looks of Ioniq 5 and size and colour choice it’s the ŠKODA.Any thoughts?

Decide what’s important to you day in day , take the emotion out of it. Is it asthetics and it making your heart and mind sing ( colour) ( body shape) is it the drive ( performance) is it having an unusual stand out car ( Hyundai). A fantastic work horse (Kia) or lots of gadgets and fun ( Skoda) just check what day in day out means something to you.
January 25, 2024 at 5:31 pm #256273The EV6 and Ioniq 5 have 325hp and 600Nm torque vs 286hp and 460 Nm torque (5s vs 6.7s 0-62). Either way they all have some ooomph!
The Ioniq 5 ultimate will have the most bells and whistles, gadgets etc, inc ventillated front seats….
The Enyaq AP is excellent in camparison and brst bang for buck £ wise
The EV6 would be my choice, even more so if the GT Line S were to join the scheme 🙂
January 25, 2024 at 5:41 pm #256274Are you adding packs to the Enyaq? If so, there’s a risk with any reason for early termination you’ll lose the pack value.
Between the ultimate AWD and the GT Line EV6 there’s really not much in it. There were some things I needed and wanted that meant the Ioniq stood out, electric boot being the main one. So it’s the drive of the EV6 against the unique looks of the Hyundai and that’s really down to personal preference.
If you prefer hitting corners quicker and throwing the car around a bit, the EV6 is for you, otherwise the Ioniq feels like it wants to be that little bit laid back and better behaved.

January 25, 2024 at 6:08 pm #256278However much I tried couldn’t get to love the striking shape of the Ioniq but found the EV6 was more to my taste. Both are great cars loaded with features, down to personal preference. Looking forward to Monday when I collect it!

I’ve been around, I’ve even posted occasionally.
Pick up is 1st Feb, so this will be the longest week I’ve had in a while?

Any news on your charger install?
January 25, 2024 at 6:28 pm #256287We ordered the Skoda due to the low AP, good level of standard equipment, range and the massive boot.
Enyaq EV
January 25, 2024 at 6:29 pm #256288It can be all very subjective and down to personal preferences.
We found the ev6 to be cramped in the cabin and slightly claustrophobic, the ionic 5 was much more comfy and light, but the big downside for us was no rear wiper on either.
The Enyaq Edition is as well specced as the Sportline, its only the 4 wheel drive being the big difference. The Enyaq suv has the best boot of the three, the ev6 the worst
I have gone for a sunroof in the sportline, to reduce the darkness which if I had gone with the edition eco suite I wouldn’t have bothered.

They’ve just emailed me to say they can’t do it, there’s no evidence of a drive within my property?? I’ve sent them a picture of my current car on the drive with the gate shut. That should do it. I do wonder if it’s not best to play dumb and get someone out to do the survey?

Oh no! In my view there incompetent and should be suveying a property properly.
Is it your own house with typical drive running along side of house?
Any assistance going forward, don’t hesitate giving me a shout. Saddly your to far for me to install one.
I would take several close up photo’s showing both the road (dropped kerbs), your drive and house front.
The charger rigmarole people, some seem to be having, makes me want to have an EV, just to see what nonsense they tried on me lol.

It’s mind blowing. It’s a rented house but we’re end of terrace and have a huge chunk of our back garden surrendered so we can have a drive within the property. The estate was built around families, so the houses face the central green areas with the rear gardens facing the roads around the estate, so the only place for a drive or garage is the rear of the houses. I’m taking more photos in the morning, when there’s daylight, they got a quick one of the car in the drive because it’s there charging overnight.
As I said, I’m pretty sure it’s better to play completely dumb and get someone out to look around for you.
Anyhow, back to topic:
As things currently stand, the Ioniq 5 Ultimate AWD with tech pack completely outclasses the rest for toys, the comfort seats are something else and worth the £500 extra for the RWD version but without being able to get the pricing right on the AWD, I’m not sure what I’d do there. The EV6 is missing some key things the Ioniq has, so it depends on how important they are for you.
Of the known common faults, the 5 has an ICCU issue which screws up the 12v battery and renders the car useless, parts are known and currently hard to get hold of. There’s a non Hyundai part available which, apparently removes this issue completely but voids your warranty (not something I’d consider on the HV warranty). The EV6 has problems with the rear charging flap sticking, it seems less of an issue and is equally solvable but can also render the car inoperable if you run out of charge and can’t get it.
I won’t advise you which way to go, each person has slightly different requirements, but I did end up ordering the 5, Namsan Edition RWD but here in Cornwall we really don’t need AWD unless we’re passing a farm in wet weather.

January 26, 2024 at 11:56 am #256386Thanks for your thoughts guys. I’m still undecided on what to choose but I’m edging towards the Hyundai at the moment, it’s just a shame the colour choice is a bit bland.

that might be because the rest of it is so funky they need to hold something back it we all get TOO spoilt 🙂 it’s a seriously futuristic car. All it needed was gull wing doors and you could believe it was a Time Machine. I’m looking forward to test driving it.

The 5 is a nice car, the Ultimate probably the most speced EV on the scheme. The awd version goes like sh!t and is one if not the quickest cars on the scheme, along with the EV6!
I would try and look at the colours you prefer in the flesh however don’t get too bogged down on colour over comfort 🙂

It’s a very nice car, I don’t want to push anyone one way or another, it’s a personal choice but either the EV6 or the 5 are fabulous cars. To be fair, it’s a choice between a very good car and 2 great ones.
Colours are a little thing that people can get caught up in. I am not a fan of a colour scheme that’s monochromatic, I much prefer a colour but that doesn’t mean that each car doesn’t look surprisingly good in a particular shade of grey. Hyundai’s matte colours are very different and will stand out in a car park, probably more than normal colours. The green and blue are at least not grey. The EV6 has some stunning colours but the absence of the GT line S makes a huge difference and I got the feeling I was missing so much over the Hyundai and that was before the Namsan and others joined the scheme.
Have a look at different colours yourself, you may be surprised.

January 26, 2024 at 2:15 pm #256407@kezo The Enyaq has 286bhp and 460nm with 0-62 in 6.7s? Thats incredible considering the i435 has basically the same power but way faster at 5.8s and some people have timed it to be even faster than that depending on the conditions. Just shows german engineering is superior.

Yes the specs are right for the 2024 Enyak which also has a higher drag coefficient than the i4 (SUB vs Saloon) 🙂

Can the i435 also take a wardrobe in the space behind the seats? What Skoda have is a massive boot, which only gets even bigger once you drop the seats, plus some good design inside, plus a good AWD system, plus decent economy for a huge car, plus decent range. The I4 is a very nice car but I’d not be thinking about shifting furniture in one. 6.7s isn’t bad, I remember the time when anything labeled ‘family car’ took 10+ seconds to get to 60. Granted 5.8s is better and the BMW is a very nice car but it’s not a SUV (which isn’t necessarily a bad thing) so comparing the two is somewhat unfair.

I’ve been looking at the matte colours which I must admit I’m warming to. The demo car was in the matte grey and it looks really good, any body have any experience with matte colours? Where I live it’s a bit rural with narrow lanes.
January 26, 2024 at 4:47 pm #256422There’s a lot of comments on forums that matte colours are a proper pain if scratched. There are paint sticks available for touch ups but the normal polishing remedies for light scratches don’t work as they’re all designed for gloss paints.
Like you, there’s a lot of hedges and stuff that puts paint at risk, I went for the Digital Teal Green, the other option was the Shooting star grey but I wasn’t keen on risking the great potential for niggling scratches and marks that I can polish out on other cars.
