My gas usage for the past 19 days of December just over 1100 kWh @10.2 £112.00 + standing charge £5.10
Just over £117.00 at we our only two thirds through the month, I can easily see a £190/200 bill just for gas at the end of the month
Unfortunately I have suffered a brain injury and occasionally I get confused and often say the wrong thing.

December 19, 2022 at 3:51 pm #202987my electric is always high. i have switched off lots of stuff etc and it has made a difference, but i still use far too much for a small house with just me. too many gadgets; especially in kitchen sadly. quite a few down back of the tv unit too which i cant get to to unplug. only used £2.07 today so far.. a record

Well it’s been like this for the last 10 months. I won’t hold my breath.

Quite pleased almost 100 kWh charging the Outlander PHEV

Used a lot more gas than usual, had to leave it on low during the day last week as air temperature barely went above freezing.

Tell me about it!
Mrs Jojoe works from home in the small bedroom, she’s had an electric radiator on for most of the month, plus 3 or 4 washes a week, dryer and dishwasher 2-3 times a week.

Boy, over a year or so you might save enough to throw enough petrol into the car to make it halfway down the driveway!

We’re genuinely quite happy with Octopus. Was a bit of a faff to get our smart meter fitted, but in general, they’re always responsive and helpful. The only time they’ve let us down was when we asked them for a car charger, and it took them like 3 months to respond. They did respond, but obviously at that point we already had our charger.
Other than that, yeah – we’re happy with Octopus, though i don’t know how good Bulb was so i can’t really say whether or not they’re better.

Smart meter is a bit hit and miss.

December 23, 2022 at 1:29 pm #203310Our Avro account was taken over by Octopus last year. It took a few weeks for them to get all the info onto their system, but seems fine since. Easy to find out usage and adjust the monthly payments on their website or app.

Have you got the SMETS 1 smart meter.

I have done a spread sheet where I can input readings and get a £amount used. Its broken down by VAT amount, Standing charge KW used and a converts gas units to Kw. All I have to do is update the unit price ex VAT when prices increase/decrease and put DD payments in so I can see if I’m in credit or not.
December 24, 2022 at 1:05 pm #203404my nov figures the last on a fixed were gas 12.25 elec 8.81.
on the new variable dec was gas 108.04 elec 12.25
i pay £62 by dd and plus now the govt 67 so its not too bad and i am in credit £186 so it will see me through the winter.
good thing is that i am now out 6 hrs a day so that will help as i switch off during those hours.
December 24, 2022 at 1:23 pm #203414My DD is about 180+. Then the govts 67 on top. It’s still not enough but I have a credit of over 450 so should hold me.

AnonymousMy DD is £140. I contact them everytime they increase it automatically and we then come to an agreement on a lower payment, as I get my main benefit every 2 weeks and cannot pay such a large amount in one go, as they wanted almost £200 a month this time.
Guess maybe the same will happen in jan as they setting the cap every 3 months now. If not probably april. We used to able to lower or raise the payment online but for last 6 months at least, it just says to contact them when you try to reduce the payment amount.
The govts £67 get taken from my DD so I only pay £73 a month by DD right now. I then make a payment later in the month to clear any excess. I could go into some arrear’s if I wanted during the winter month’s and offset it during the summer, but I choose not to as it gives me more cash for in the summer hols and the kids being off school for 6 weeks, they need entertaining and enriching.
We do have a smart meters, but they have never worked as they both won’t connect and I ain’t too fussed about that. The only reason we had them changed, was because when we got the house it had an electric payment key meter fitted, but not gas and it meant you couldn’t get cheaper fixed deals and had to go out to charge the key. They also charged for a normal meter and not for a smart one.
Our fixed deals ended and like many, no deals better than the flexible tariff that’s capped and you cannot even switch right now.
Last months bill was just over £265 Gas 31st Oct. 2022 – 29th Nov. 2022 £165.47 DR
Electricity 31st Oct. 2022 – 29th Nov. 2022 £99.58 DRI guess this month it will be higher but till I give them the readings on the 31st and they generate the monthy bill I won’t know. Guess i could look at the meter reading but, naw I ain’t doing that.
Lucky for us the mrs started working recently again and 100% from home, so she’s here if i need her. If she hadn’t it would be a huge problem on the income we did have coming in. Without the goverment help last month is was almost £200 in energy and we ain’t got it on 24/7 far from it, but we do live in an older 4 bedroom semi.
