3 month old Enyaq and huge crack across the screen now grrr.

Now of course Autoglass insist on me taking it to them and “dropping it off” and they’ll “call when it’s done”

That’s all well and good but Autoglass are 30 miles away for one and obviously they’re on an industrial estate so how are you supposed to leave it with them with nowhere to go? Don’t even know if they have a waiting room or not tbh.

Yes I get there’s the need to recalibrate the car sensors due to the new windscreen but the lengthy bit is fitting it, I’d love to know why they can’t come out do the screen then have me pop in for 30 mins or whatever to calibrate when convenient.

Failing that it can stay like it until I can figure out the logistics or RAC can cone take it there and back. It’s ridiculous to suggest how a service works then when you need it, no you have to come to us

Was going to suggest the RAC route if they will take it and fetch it back home. The other option is to make use of Motability’s taxi sevice, to get you home and back again once its finished.

The taxi is a no go really. It’s OK to go from Norwich home I guess but they send the taxis from Norwich so to take me back would be nearly £100 for that 39 miles as they charge for both directions.

I had a taxi to pick up my MG after it broke the dealer is 5 miles away it cost Motability £70. I know it’s them not me but I really resent that.

Maybe Motability can get me a taxi from Autoglass to the city centre and back. I hadn’t thought of that I don’t really wanna do that but maybe it’s a compromise if they’ll do that

Same way they always go. Got a small chip, booked it in for repair then went out to car later and it was 18″ long. Guess the heater on it hot cold etc split it

If the crack is in line of site it’s illegal to drive technically and  Mota will probably allow RAC to take it and allow a taxi to collect. Worth checking up with them.

It’s across the top of the screen so it’s outside of zone A. I wonder if many have ever been prosecuted and even then it’s up to you to put your own foot in it. Given something like that can happen in seconds you just tell the plod it happened just now doubt they’d be able to prove otherwise.

It’s also a fine crack so it mostly looks like a fine line so not obscuring the view and it’s above Zone A luckily but it’ll get done as soon as Autoglass can do it next week

I wonder if they’ll even have the glass readily available…. Nice idea about that pushing RAC to take it cheers

Rich, as it goes I had to have a new screen fitted on Wednesday. Was booked in for 2 and half hrs, but it was all done and ready to in 1hr and 15 mins.

You have to take it to them if the car has sensors etc as it needs to be in the shop to be calibrated.

There was a small waiting room, with tea and coffee. There’s no drama.

I actually turned up 30 mins earlier and they just got on with it, simple process.

                    Swansea was my Autoglass.

To note, phoned at 3pm Tuesday as it failed mot, and they had me booked in the following morning at 11 am.

They do offer for £39 a windscreen ‘guard’ it’s like a weather protector or something. But you’ll need to phone as they pre do it before installing

I did day I know it needs calibrating. It’s booked in for 10 until 1pm. Glad yours had a waiting area no mention of that at this one there might well be but I’ve never been in one that was actually comfortable. Tbh sitting around a waiting room for an hour is too long. Might be OK for some and might be OK if comfortable seating last one I was in all there was was cheap school plastic seats and no heating.

Last windscreen I had fitted it was booked in and took them twice as long as something went wrong the first time and they took it out and started again.

Yeah I already paid on booking declined all that rubbish and I’m not buying any of their mumbo jumbo upsell stuff same as where they try to sell you new wipers as they may have been damaged lol.

It’s no drama when you don’t have to travel so far etc I go into the city maybe two or three times a year at most don’t really like being forced into it at no notice. 30 miles each way plus waiting around basically means it’s an entire day. Doesn’t sound much but 30 miles of country roads etc it’s a good hour plus getting round to autoglass.

Yeah I get I’m being miserable about it but I’m in pain, fed up, skint because we’re being forced to migrate to universal credit so 5 weeks with no money now despite being paid 2 weekly since 2014

Just hoping they don’t have problems calibrating adas as that’d be about right I’ve known people who had new screens fitted and then the cars been taken to the dealer as camera wouldn’t calibrate so I’m really hoping that’s not going to happen sods law etc

Motability gave me a hire car when the screen cracked on mine. Autoglass can arrange it for you if it is unsafe or illegal to drive.

My local Autoglass is 60 miles away. I live in the back and beyond. I’m surprised there is even a McDonalds out this way.
