not a killjoy but already monster fireworks are being let off all around here.

shouldnt thier use be restricted to 7 days around nov 5th with that day being in the middle.

i have ptsd on top of my physical issues and the next month and the 2 weeks over xmas and new year will be literally a nightmare for me.

i spend most evenings at these times with noise cancelling headphones etc to try and block it but its started early this year.

It’s been like that round here for weeks :/

I don’t think you are being a killjoy at all Mitch, there are just too many idiots throwing fireworks around for the sake of it and they’re not too considerate about where, or what time they do it.

Good move by Sainsburys but I think that the licencing of fireworks sales and purchases needs a good look at.

Years ago there was an unwritten agreement amongst retailers that fireworks wouldnt be sold until three weeks before November 5th. That was before the supermarkets got in on the act.

I just can’t understand how it can be legal to sell gunpowder over the counter.

By all means, allow organised displays run by councils or other bodies, but not allowing youngsters to be able to get their hands on potentially life changing or even lethal gunpowder toys as individuals.

Twas ever thus John.  I survived a childhood where we could buy blockbuster bangers at any age, had pocket knives at 9 years old, and had air rifles at 12. Nobody died.

Like you Wigwam, I survived childhood, however too many people are injured each year due to fireworks and has in rare occasions even taken lives.

There, Guy Fox’s life was cut short due to gunpowder.

the problem is like all things today things have gotten bigger louder etc.

what we had as kids wouldnt cut it today, the fireworks are louder the explosions and flashes are more akin to military kit. i know i used to use it.

some of the stuff available over the counter the barrage type ought to be only available for displays not for someones back garden.

many have warnings saying keep 30 metres from audience but people dont follow instructions they just want something bigger and louder than their neighbours.

do to my issues and i appreciate its my problem and i dont want to be a killjoy i used to be like anyone else have a party in the back garden etc etc i now feel due to the increase in size etc there ought to be only organised displays no sales to the public. and they must be advertised and listed on a local council website so that those with issues can take appropriate action.

last night at around 8 i thought i was in a war zone , out of the blue 3 seperate lots started going off at the same time for about an hour i was a wreck. not slept much since.

Chatting to someone on twitter last night about this. A year or two back in panic at the sound of fireworks one of his horses had demolished his stable causing itself a great deal of injury, leaving him with not only a huge vet bill but also the cost of repairs to it’s stable.
