Anyone using purely EV public chargers rather than a home one?

Far better to stick with a petrol / diesel or self charging hybrid if you can’t charge at home. If you have to rely solely on public chargers it could well end up costing you more per mile than you are paying now and you will have all the hassle of the charging. At present, EVs (and even PHEVs) only really make sense if you can charge at home. One of my nephews got an EV and cannot charge at home and he now deeply regrets it and will be reverting to petrol when his lease ends.

Yep, As Glos Guy says, better avoid full EV if you can’t charge st home. There are a few deals where you get discounts for subscribing, Tesla charge £8.99 a month and can get you around 38p ish per KWh, but not all locations are ppen to all. Ionity do a £10.50 monthly subscription which gets you 43p per kWh.

The “average” cost of using a public slow/fast EV charger (49kW or less) is 57p/kWh, and 80p/kWh for a rapid/ultra-rapid (50kW+) charger.

At 3.5 miles per kWh it will cost you between 16p and 22p per mile.

The average petrol car costs between 12p and 14p per mile.

I don’t bother with public chargers anymore since the energy crisis, it cheaper to press the charge button on our PHEV than to us public chargers.

Unfortunately I have suffered a brain injury and occasionally I get confused and often say the wrong thing.
