EV Charger survey

I had my EV charger fitted 3 weeks ago. No issues with my property and a straight forward job according to the fitter from Pro EV. However I have just received an e-mail from SP energy networks on behalf of Pro EV who made an application for me. It says following an assessment to my property I require a cable head upgrade. Has anyone else had this? I imagine if it was a big job the EV charger wouldn’t have been fitted before this point? I find it strange none of this was carried out priory to the charger being fitted unless it is a small job. I have a driveway and recently got a rewire done.

      Thanks!

        Hi

I had something similar. Our estate was built in 1999. Each 2 properties had one main cable from the road and was split to each house. National Grid did the work and made good. No charge 👍

what did the work involve if you don’t mind me asking? Digging up the front of the house?

Cable head upgrade refers to whats known as the cut-out or service head.

Most likely it will be a simple fuse upgrade from 60 to 80A, as is common with EV charger installations or a replacement service head, depending on its age and condition.

You can identify your service head type from the images here –

            Nothing to worry about.

Oh nice one. I was worried they were going to want to dig things up etc.

              Thanks

They did dig a small hole but they made good. No charge. Apparently there is a small chance of the cable branch being overloaded if both my neighbour and us had everything on and the charger !

If there is any word of any digging happening I will be pulling the plug on the EV idea. How this isn’t done before the charger is installed is baffling to me.
