My current car on mobility scheme is the ford tourneo custom eco blue 320 TDI auto. I am afraid to go electric because of infrastructure but also because  i have 4 kids, if we go on a longer journey we’d have to wait almost 2 hours for a full charge on a car of the same size or even the new electric version of what I’ve already got.  The kids won’t be happy and I get annoyed “slightly” when it takes 8 minutes to fill up my tank with diesel lol 🤣, They do a hybrid version of what I’ve got but doesn’t seem to be on motability

Don’t go Electric if you’re not confident.

What I would say is that most vehicles take around 25 minutes for a 20 to 80% charge on the huge number of rapid chargers available.

The idea with public charging (assuming you have/will have a home charger) is to top up during a long journey, not to fully charge to 100%.

More research required on your part to fully understand the pros and cons of going Electric I think 🙂

I’m in my 70s but we had 4 kids – so can completely emphasise.
My last car was a PHEV – just over 30 miles on electric before going to petrol.

Dont know if there are any suitable PHEVs on the scheme – but that would be a good halfway point – Im guessing you do a lot of local runaround’s – school, clubs etc – would certainly make a dent in your fuel bill.

Hiya thankyou for the reply. I have done very extensive research and id need to get a van based people carrier as I need ample boot space for kids stuff as well as my wheelchair for when I’m having a really bad day so even most 7 seaters are not big enough which I know have better range and charging capabilities

Yes certainly does make a dent. I’m doing around 140 a month of fuel sometimes less but can also be more lol 😆

Something like the Hyundai Santa fa might do it but it’s crazy money – hopefully more suitable choice next quarter.

I’ve looked at them and believe it or not the Kia ev9 is bigger in the boot department with all 7 seats up but again not enough room for the stuff I need to keep in it but I will say bot the Kia ev9 and Hyundai Santa Fa are very nice cars I’ve looked at both and sat in both

Think my only options are the citroen space tourer, Peugeot traveler, vauxhall vivaro and the one I’ve got now the tourneo custom

It doesn’t run out till next October but the scheme cars don’t really change much as they haven’t in the last 6 years

One problem with electric van derived vehicles, is the electric range isn’t worth shouting home about. The Tourneo electric has a range of 202 miles according to Ford, in the real world thats going to be more like 150 miles maybe a bit less fully loaded and alot less again during the colder months. Thats fine if you can charge at home and trips out with the family don’t exceed 60-70miles each way.

Just been sent the latest newsletter from Motaclarity – might be worth a look – didn’t realise they do secondhand Motability vehicles – many set up for wheelchair.

I know you did extensive research so suspect you are all over this  – but just in case!
