Electric chargers – where to start

      <p style=”text-align: left;”>Hi</p>
Live roadside in a rural village with no charging infrastructure. However we have an unused piece of land on the other side of the road, and wondering if this could be converted for hard standing parking and whether a standing charger could be installed.

The space is plenty big enough for a carport,  and a previous owner must have thought about this as there is already a dropped kerb in place over the entrance to the “garden/wasteland”. Potential added complication is that the property is in a National park.

I have 15 months before my current lease expires, which feels like sufficient time to convert. But unsure where to even start considering the project, or which industry to get advice from. Is it the EV charger industry, electrician, architect or local authority who is the best initial contact?

Any words of advice would be welcome, and if Motability allow this form of arrangement. Clearly we would pick up all conversion costs, as it should add value, but unclear if MB would support up to the value of a standard install.

      Thanks in advance.

You would have to involve Highways/LA as you would need to get sufficient power across the road to power the charger and thats without battling out with the National Park.

Its omething I would persue without involving Motability, as the non standard costs would be extortionate, well above getting the whole job done yourself.

Start with the local council that deals with planning applications. Then I’m guessing you’d need a quote for power whether from your meter or a new connection and meter.

Talk to your council first I’d think. Might be worth involving your MP too

Thanks for the various advice. Our local councillor lives in the village and will start with her. She’s a Green party councillor so should be interested. Hopefully she will point me in the right direction.

Would this be worth looking at, as cost wise will be hell of a lot cheaper if you park outside your house.

There is also a thread on here about it.

Thanks Kezo. I had signed up to keep in touch with kerbo. Problem is that the house is a listed thatch, and even if the authorities permitted a box, my wife would not be very happy as not ” in keeping’ with period of property, and struggling to see how we could hide it Not prepared to have the argument!
