Just looked at the ds 4 does look very good , so had a look on line but by the looks of it the soonest you can get a test drive is late March . My question is if I was to order one before a test drive can you cancel the order if you did not like the drive of the car, hope that makes sense

It is up to you to verify that the car is suitable for your needs before you sign the contract.

So, no – you can’t cancel the order, based upon your question.

You have no obligation until you enter a PIN on collection, and many on here have cancelled orders due to delays in timescales. Dealer might not be chuffed, although given that the DS4 is offering relative value in current Motability pricing, I sense there would be others willing to step in.

Yeah had a feeling that would be the answer, but why put a car on that you can’t test drive ?

Thats reality for you. Some may know that the car is good for them, like trying a friends car for size.

I guess some people buy cars on ‘reputation’ and without even seeing a vehicle.
                  Tesla springs to mind.

No idea what saggitonious is talking about, of course you can cancel any time you want up until you put your pin in on the day of collection. And this type of issue is common at this moment with the car shortages.

John is correct.  However bear in mind SOME dealers will take a deposit at the time of ordering which may or may not be refunded. Motability even state that on their website.

Odd that everyone is quick to point out that you can cancel at any time, but forgets to mention that this can (and in this climate, will) lead to a cancellation fee.

No it won’t Rene.  Not if your reason is acceptable to motability. Whenever we have had issues with anything over the last 4 years they have been 1st class every time.

Motability has zero say in whether or not the dealership charges a cancellation fee.

Motability in fact warns you on the website of it, too.

now i am all for people getting the vehicle that best suits them and lets face it at times car dealers are their own worst enemy.

but how would you feel if someone ordered something and then cancelled because something shinier had come along.

personally regardless of lead times i wouldnt order something like a car unless i had had a proper test drive and was sure it suited my injuries, but thats me treat others as you would like to be treated.

as i was particularly struggling to get around and do test drives last time it took me 3 months to test drive all the cars on my short list, now i appreciate delivery times are particuarly challenging at the moment but i will start test drives in about 9 months time 6 months before i am due to change and even then i need to decide if the scheme still works for me, i may leave at the end of this lease in march 23.

Of course you can cancel the order if you test drive it (eventually) ahead of taking delivery. John is right, you can change your mind right up until you’ve entered your PIN at the dealership at which point you’ve taken delivery and the contract with Motability becomes legally binding.

in general i agree mitch, although things can change quickly. i had to cancel my nissan order as i damaged my knee and needed something easier to drive hence the electric as it can do quite close to one pedal driving. the fact it was also cheaper was a big bonus.

i fell now that was a good decision as nissan in a month hadnt even got round to finding a build date, and i now have my new motor, which is so much easier to get into as well.

So its not always just because youve changed mind but things get in the way too.

It’s a little bit vague where we stand with cancellations and deposits but I pointed out to my VW dealer that I may cancel my order if something else should come along due to the very long delivery times however I also said if the car was to get a confirmed build date then I would not cancel for sure and they were fine by that.

It’s what they used to call back in the day “a gentleman’s agreement”. ?

We have never cancelled due to a test drive in fact we always are unlucky with test drives
our current vehicle would be hard pressed to find one to test. However we have benefited on 4 occasions including this current car when a Motability customer does cancel and this time it was because vehicle arrived but charger did not so guy cancelled and we got a car in 4 days instead of 18 months so I always tell dealer to let me know of any cancellations and if you are genuine they will. The downside is why I am still driving my 3 rd grey car when I keep ordering red ones.

I am the carer / driver for my wife who cannot drive due to disability
