Does any know what a Build Code is?

After originally ordering my replacement vehicle last August, my dealership tell me they are still waiting for a Build Code, does anyone have any idea what they are?

I ordered an Astra Sports Tourer last August, somewhere along the production line the Astra got a “facelift” this (I’m told by my unreliable dealership) meant my original order was cancelled and led to the requirement of a new Build Code from Vauxhall which they have been waiting on for almost two months.

I think I have more chance of cracking the Da Vinci Code than getting a Build Code or anything that makes sense from my dealership at the minute.

August to now without a confirmed build? Wow. I would probably phone a few vauxhall dealers myself and find out how long the wait times are. I can’t believe it 6 months + for an Astra.  We ordered our Ateca 29/12 and its been built already and we pick it up on 1st march. Basically 9 weeks from order to pick up.

Thanks for the reply John, you can probably guess how I feel.
Bristol Street Motors took over my local dealership sometime ago and I can’t say as I’m happy with them. Probably the dealership they took over was to good. I was always kept fully informed all through the different stages of the order, great service and most helpful.

The build code is the number allocated to a particular car during the planning stage of its production at the factory. Until it’s issued, the gathering together of the parts needed and the proposed production date can’t be decided.  It will be normally be a few weeks after the code is issued that the car is made, which could take a couple of days.  At least that’s how it works in BMW.  Once the code is known, progress can be checked.

Thanks for the help. Really appreciated. Not sure why it would take so long for Vauxhall to issue a Build Code to the dealership.

It can only be because the factory haven’t decided when they are going to build it. I would ask Vauxhall Motors the question, not rely on the dealer.

<p style=”text-align: left;”>Have you asked for any specific requirements for the car? Maybe different seats or upholstery? I know when I used to build qashqai and a special order car was requested it would take a while to put it in the system and build it. Like if someone ordered a base spec car but wanted leather and a rear camera it wouldn’t be built as fast as a factory spec one, wouldn’t be 6 months though! Sounds like they haven’t even begun to build it yet</p>

                    @Wigwam
: The only people I can contact at Vauxhall are Customer Services and all they do is contact my dealership. I never get any further than that with either of them.

: Nothing extra, no add ons just the SRi Sports Tourer.

@FiestaRed you could call motability customer service, and ask them to look into the matter on your behalf.

                        Thank Joss,

As they’re a great set of people, it was something I’d hoped to avoid. Unfortunately, and seeing as I’m getting nowhere with either the dealership or Vauxhall, it’s something I may have to do.

The thing is FiestaRed. Dealerships, especially the Motability side have to meet certain criteria to become a motability dealership. If, for what ever reason they are not meeting those agreed standards, then questions need to be asked.

Your first port of call would be to try and sort matters out with the dealership. If, however that fails then that is when you need to talk to Motability. I do hope you can sort things out FR. Please keep us updated.

Just as an update Joss, I contacted Motability who, as usual were most helpful and quite shocked to hear of the problems. As far as they had heard from the dealership everything was going fine.

Motability are now looking into the problem for me. At least if I don’t get any further, Motability will know what kind of problems their customers are experiencing from Bristol Street Motors.

Great stuff FR, if we don’t let motability know about such problems customers are facing with approved motability dealers not meeting their obligations to both customers and motability. We would soon be in a right mess.
