Craig<p style=”text-align: left;”>Hi I’ve been to see my Consultant today and he has advised I start driving an automatic. I currently have a manual on the scheme that I’ve only had since June.

Would anyone be able to tell me what options I have. Thanks in advance.

contact motability and tell them what hes said and they will tell you what it will cost if anything to change.
ive just had to change 2 years 4 months in as my back wont wait till sept, for something easier to get in/out of. they can charge up to £250 to change early they charged me £50. but i will get a pro rata refund for the extras i paid for and the gcb.so iam getting just shy of £500 back which means the new car isnt costing much as its a lowish ap and the dealer had a £500 contrinution offer.
but all are discretionary its simple to do and so long as you have a valid reason and arent a serial early changer there should be no problem.
January 29, 2020 at 1:30 pm #104490Ring Mota, they should allow a change as it’s due to a change in medical needs, I have had to do this twice (both times I was unhappy to let current car go as I liked them so much and wasn’t able to replace with same car in different spec), they did mention the £250 fee but waived it both times even after offering initially to reduce it to £50 when it came to the time they just said it had been reduced to zero.
Don’t struggle along with it as I did for a year as all that did was make my conditions worse.

AnnekaSorry to here that you need to change due to health. Search for offers if you can as you maybe able to get an auto at zero ap or a small contribution but auto are more expensive unfortunately. Good luck with your new car search ?
January 29, 2020 at 1:59 pm #104495Craig you may be eligible for a grant for the cost of Automatic, it’s usually only a one off and you won’t get it every time, again mention it to Motability, they will give you the information.
January 29, 2020 at 2:20 pm #104497if your a veteran on wpms etc you can get a grant of up to £660 towards the extra cost of an auto paid from veterans agency but its all done by motability so its a one stop shop you have to pay the ap first but the cheque arrives within a week of picking up the car. one grant per 3 years.

CraigThanks for the replies.
Is it a simple process to ask for a grant. I’m currently unemployed if that makes a difference. Would need a similar size car to what I have now and they are not cheap on the AP’S with auto.

Craig<p style=”text-align: left;”>Update,

Applied for grant I’ve got wait another 2 weeks.Meanwhile I’ve test driven a clubman and a countryman both have an offer of 500 of the ap but have to ordered ASAP for delivery before 31st of March.
Question is do I wait to see if I get a grant to upgrade these or a different car or bite the bullet and take one as I like them both.
