Do you need to obtain DNO approval for a EV charger, PodPoint fitted mine in early 2020 they never mentioned anything about DNO approval, I have emailed them for clarifications.

Unfortunately I have suffered a brain injury and occasionally say the wrong thing.

As far as I’m aware yes your DNO should be notified at the time of installation.

Our installer notified our DNO before it was fitted.

Ours was the same and the installer placed an in line limiter to limit the charge to 3.7kW until the DNO could sort it out.

In most cases you do not need approval from your DNO and its a simple case of connect & notify. The installer installs the charger and notify’s the relevant DNO within 28days however, you DNO won’t write to you, telling of the notification.

Pod Point would have notified your DNO, so wouln’t worry too much mate.

Having just had a ev charger installed recently i was intrigued to look into this as i had not heard of it before, and if you google it is by LAW that the DNO is informed that an ev charger is being installed at an address. I sent an email late last night to my installer questioning who if any should inform the DNO and i had a very prompt and nice reply back from them this morning stating it is as Kezo says above the installers duty to inform the DNO in that area. I suppose it is why many of us have not heard anything about this procedure.
