I Recently noticed a post from Caffyns Audi Brighton about stock availability and dealer support offers.
A big shout out to Nathan GM for doing this. I think this is a superb way of promoting Motability and generating business for the dealership.
I have had a few dealers that seem very uninterested when you say that you are a Motability customer.
Prime example, my own Local Audi dealership in Tamworth. If the Q4 had wowed me (which it didn’t) I would have done the 350 mile round trip to deal with Caffyns Brighton rather than give my business to Tamworth.
I think if more dealers could promote on here , particularly stock availability that would be a huge tick for customer service.
Well done Nathan, Caffyns Audi, Brighton.

I agree, the two local Nissan dealers were not really interested, when I was looking for my
QQ ePower, but the dealer in Exeter, over 100 miles away, bent over backwards to get me a good deal on existing stock. Well worth the travel!Exactly the same with my Tiguan , 3 local dealers a waste of time , but 55 m. away ,great service.
February 11, 2024 at 12:52 pm #258029why is it that some dealers lose interest when you mention motability? Most i’ve spoken to a great

I don’t know if it’s actually a Motability thing or luck of the drawer with being unlucky in getting the divet who just isn’t interested in life.period ?
The person I had the misfortune of serving me at my local Tamworth Audi dealership was about as useful as the G in gnome.
I am the sort of person who buys from people and that makes a huge difference to me. Obviously the deal has to be right, but I would happily travel to receive first class customer service rather than give my business to a brain-dead oik.
February 11, 2024 at 1:33 pm #258038Truth is, most of these guys work on commision and profit sharing. There’s no room for them to score extra with a motability order – I’ve heard from £150 to £500 profit for the dealer on Motability orders depending on the source, I believe it to be in the £250 range. With a private sale, they can negotiate on price, so the higher they get the better, they can push extended warranties, service plans, finance deals, try to score points on a part-ex deal etc. and potentially put a lot more in their own pocket.
Not saying it doesn’t suck as a customer for us, but I do kinda understand why they aren’t as excited to deal with a motability customer as they are a retail one.
I personally have only had one bad “I’m a motability customer” response from a dealer and quite happy to name and shame, VW in Sunderland, Tyne & Wear, but it was over 4 years ago when I was looking at Tiguans – I was trying to get them to match a £500 off deal being offered elsewhere, based on the fact that they had a blue Tiguan on the showroom floor with huge motability stickers along both sides, and their price-match promise stickers on the bonnet of the same car. Guy just point-blank said “No, we don’t do that on motability cars” – I’ve never been back as this was my second bad experience at this dealership and the first one was as a retail customer when my son was looking for a brand new car and the salesman (might have been the same one, not sure) said “You don’t want that car (the one he asked about), you probably can’t afford the insurance, look at this one instead”
To this day, I still drive 30-odd miles round trip to Lookers in Newcastle for all servicing and repairs because I don’t want to ever put a penny in thier pockets. Hell my work van is a Caddy and if I need anything for that I order from TPS in newcastle for pretty much the same reason. I did ONCE buy a single bolt from them for the caddy as the van was off the road without it, but in the last 5 years, they’ve had £7 out of me because of those two experiences.

February 11, 2024 at 3:12 pm #258044After going around a few dealers yesterday, it’s becoming quite clear that they will need Motability customers more than ever. They were all dead with the only customers being those who had bought their cars in for a service or repair.
February 11, 2024 at 3:20 pm #258046Was in 6 dealerships yesterday and only 1 person showed any kind of interest in us after mentioning the word Motability, pounce on you as soon as you hit the forecourt but mention motability and the whole attitude and demeanour changes.
February 11, 2024 at 4:32 pm #258055I have always been lucky and received good service. As I said on another thread, I am due to pick my car up end of April and my dealer this time around are holding a car that came into stock for me the week I ordered. Extraordinary and have felt like any other customer.

Not sure if you have ever had any dealings with Nissan/Suzuki Polesworth but I found them the worst company I have ever dealt with ever! The salesman was very eager when we first walked into the showroom but the moment we mentioned Motability he lost interest completely. At one point my wife started asking a question about the Swift Sport but he actually snapped at her that it wasn’t on Motability so she didn’t need to know! She was actually asking as a private customer, as I am the Motability customer.
Needless to say we didn’t order from them and will never go back.
On a different note, TMS Volvo at Hinckley were superb! We were made to feel a valued customer at every point of the process.

I do yes. That must be a very recent experience too because they’ve only been a Suzuki dealer for about four weeks. Been Nissan for years, but I think Nissan are pushing EV heavily and they don’t think they have the clientele for solely the EV market son have recently taken on Suzuki too.
Quite shocked to hear that to be fair because I know Martin who owns the dealership and Steve the Sales Manager and me personally have always had good service from Polesworth. Perhaps worth a mention to Steve. They wouldn’t be happy at all to hear you received bad service because they have traded well on loyal local business for many years and probably 99% of Nissans locally have come from Polesworth.
February 11, 2024 at 8:12 pm #258070Can’t fault my Citroen Dealer Thomas and Davies Merthyr Tydfil. Been having cars from there since my first ever car in 2005. They appreciate all customers either it be Motability or Retail. I wouldn’t go anywhere else.

February 11, 2024 at 8:17 pm #258071I was at Stratstone BMW in Chesterfield yesterday and the General Manager there was doing everything he could to get me to cancel my Skoda order and get a BMW instead even though he knew I was a Motability customer.
February 11, 2024 at 8:54 pm #258072I have never had issues with any dealership. 1x Nissan, 2x seat, 1x renault and this honda. All have treated us very well and never been made to feel 2nd class.
February 11, 2024 at 11:21 pm #258075I’m just not recognising this at all.
Are you guys who are kicking off about poor treatment from salesmen, just walking in off the street unannounced expecting hugs and kisses from the retail salesmen who know chuff all about the Motability system? They should be pointing you to their Motability Rep. I’m not condoning any ignorant behaviour however.
Surely, if the particular dealership is signed up to the Motability scheme then they have dedicated staff for that purpose. I always phone up/email any dealership to arrange an appointment to view/test drive/discuss options/lead times/sign up/collect etc. Always been well looked after and kept informed. Never had to approach any other salesman.
Think some of you may be coming across as tyre kickers in the showroom 🙂

Doubt it lol.
I normally drop in unannounced ask all the relevant question of when can you order, do you have stock available and delivery times etc. At the end I may say I’m from Motabilty or come home to think. That day or the next you are armed with all the information upfront and makes it more difficult to be fobbed off.

My thoughts exactly, I have never suffered the type of thing some people are reporting. On two occasions in the last year I have been looking for a car, and although I ended up sticking with Audi on both occasions I did visit some other manufacturer dealerships and they all treated me well. Both Audi dealerships I visited (some 150 miles apart and different companies) were amazing and treated us like royalty right to and including the day we collected the car.
February 12, 2024 at 8:48 am #258082I had absolutely brilliant experience from Swansea Hyundai when we had the Tucson. I arranged an appointment with their Motability specialist and made the entire experience ( which was out first on the scheme ) painless. The window opens this time next year to renew so as it stands now the Austral is top of my list. Just hope the experience is the same from Swansea Renault.
February 12, 2024 at 10:34 am #258087I should point out that James Hughes of Holdcroft Nissan provided excellent service, but just too far away.
Ford, Vauxhall, Skoda&Volvo locally were also very good

I’ve always been treated OK from my go to dealers from VW and Seat though the KIA dealer I used on my last car was only just about OK.
I think some of the problems, though not all, are down to the attitude of the customer as well as the dealer.
P.S. I can’t kick tyres because I’d simply fall down. ?
February 12, 2024 at 1:57 pm #258132I have a Nissan at the moment from my local Nissan dealer and the sales side especially the Motability specialist as been probably the best I’ve ever had, my problem with them as been the after sales/service department.
The worst dealer I’ve come across is my local Skoda dealer.
