hi everyone picking up my new car today. with the current car I’ve had 2 people bumping into my car minor damage but had to put the car in for repair through insurance both times they accepted the bump but denied causing the damage to my car. has anyone fitted a dash cam themselves and recommend a decent model with good picture quality and recording even when car is parked also front and back recording. i spoke to motability and they said fit it yourself as the dealer and fitting service from Halfords quite expensive. thanks.

This one gets good reviews on Amazon. Front and rear for a good price.

Just be aware that it has to be connected as a plug in type, and not hard wired, unless things have changed recently.

I just got a nextbase 622gw. From Halfords and they fitted it. Power by the OBD port so it has constant power when parked. So parking mode is always active.

I had the same issue, my old cam was in 12v socket and during school holidays. I didn’t drive it for a few days and the battery depleted on the cam and someone crashed into the car and drove off.

The lead also has a low voltage cut-off so if 12v battery level drops in will stop powering the cam. So far I’ve had no issues with it at all. even when the cars parked for a good few days.

I went with Viofo with the Starvis 2 sensor and put in by an installer.

Mine is hard-wired, as there isn’t a (accessory) plug to plug it into. I left the harness in the old car and re-installed a new one, in the new car.

I would aim to get a capacitor powered cam system as they are less prone to overheating.

I would avoid Nextbase for this reason as they are a bit outdated still running on batteries. The net is full of Nextbase battery complaints.

Viofo have a really good reputation among reviewers and users alike and been going for years.

Not a great fan of lithium battery powered dashcams as had two, the 322GW and the 522GW fail just after warranty runs out and it’s not easy to replace the batteries as Nextbase insist on soldering them onto the board.

So anyway have now gone with Blackvue as they don’t use batteries they use a capacitor which is more reliable so now have the Blackvue DR590S two channel

Got a Viofo A139 Pro (few years old now) – very happy with it, looks sleek, works a treat, never overheated either.
