PaulHi,i intend to goto halfords over the weekend for a dashcam, i literally have no idea which one is best.lol..
I know it cant be wired into fusebox as per motorbility rules ,but halfords offer a fitting service ,will they fit non fuse dashcams too,i have limited hand grip so even fitting placing onto windscreen etc will be problem.
.But main issue like i say ,no idea which is best, would prefer front rear view ones
Any advice appreciated
Thankyou

RhodgieNextbase ?
I’ve got the 312 but only cause it’ll download footage over WiFi so I don’t need to remove it from the car and connect it to a laptop.

martinowhy will motability not allow dash cam hard wired ,getting that done i would say is a great safety /security as a disabled person, what if you go the expensive car dealer to do it , after all they allow tow bar to be fitted and they are connected / hardwired to the electric so whats the different. i would like one but i cant manage to muck around with it all the time i get in and out. what am i missing
July 18, 2020 at 9:48 am #119464@Martino, is it having wires dangling everywhere that you’re worried about or it being stolen?
To tackle the issue of wires everywhere, they can easily be rooted behind the head-lining by simply pushing the wire up into it where it meets the windscreen. It causes no damage at all and keeps the wires out of the way. From there do the same down the A-Pillar and then run the wire in the most convenient way to a 12v or usb socket. I usually tuck the wire behind the steering column and then use small ‘3M Command hooks‘ to run the wire along any plastic trim. I also use a couple of these hooks on the windscreen by the camera so that when the sucker drops off as they invariably do, the hooks catch it and prevent it from falling.
There are many YouTube videos to help, possibly even for your car.As for them being stolen, I never take mine out and as yet (had one for about 7 years) never had an issue. However, many newer cameras have quick release on them so it’s simple to take them out if you wish.
Nextbase are certainly one of the most popular brands as they are so good but many other brands such as Garmin and BlackVue are on par. Even one of the more budget brands such as Motorola and Binatone (£30+) are worth having. Something is better than nothing. In fact, we use cheap £15 cameras off eBay for the rear as the picture is good enough should it be needed. I’ve also used Motorola cameras and, for the price, don’t have any issues.
I hope this helps.
? I will be remembered for nothing but had great fun doing it ?
July 18, 2020 at 9:51 am #119465The easiest way to wire a dash cam into the fuse box is with addafuse, It literally just piggybacks of an existing fuse,
No cutting or splicing of wires, all you then need is a ground point behind a suitable screw or bolt, all neat & tidy.I can’t remember where or what manufacturer, but just recently I’ve read that the said vehicle had a usb type c plug on the rear view mirror housing for the connection of dash cams, let’s hope this becomes norm.

MichaelHi, be aware thst if you hard wire any dash cam the Insurance Company can refuse cover in the case of damage to car or accident.
ALSO remember the police can use the recordings against you if they consider it could be useful as evidence as they have legal rights of seizure of camera.

John NewtonI have Next Base it comes with an app luckily I have never had to use it
July 19, 2020 at 10:36 pm #119665I got one from Amazon. About £60, records in 4K and charges via the usb socket. I managed to hide the wires inside the plastic and into the glove compartment.
if I can do it, most people can. I’m absolutely useless.
July 20, 2020 at 1:13 pm #119717The main advantage to the Nextbase cameras is the magnetic mount, makes it so easy to just unclip and hide in car or take with you.
I had one in my previous car and never bothered removing it, after 4 months whilst at a restaurant one evening some pleb smashed my passenger window and ripped it out, took 2 days to get the window replaced at a cost of £50 (insurance) plus another £125 for new camera & memory card (we are not insured for anything we have inside the car), I remove it every time I leave the car now.
July 20, 2020 at 5:06 pm #119741The whole issue re not being allowed to hard wire your dash cams is Petty. Yes I understand the where and why.
However. It is OK to have a tow bar and electrics fitted. It;s also not problem when they want to add a “black box” to monitor the cars use in certain circumstance.
Mention Dash cam and hard wire, then it;s “how very dare you ask that question”
Now the simple solution that has already be touched on in this thread by @TomThumb. That is for car manufactures to bloody well build a USB C type plug into the mirror housing.
Its really that simple.

Previous car:Peugeot 308 GT Premium 1.2 Pure tech Petrol.July 20, 2020 at 6:38 pm #119749The annoying part of all this, is that a lot of cars these days have a reversing camera, yet have no ability to incorporate a sd card & make use of the already installed hardware for recording’s.
Add to that the increased usage of either front facing sensors / traffic sign recognition systems, the hardware is almost there, even on cars with a front facing camera that incorporate safety systems, I have not heard of any that can be used for duel use as a dashcam.
How hard could it be for manufacturers to add a small camera to the front of a vehicle & a sd card to the rear parking camera.
