I have a an Audi A1 S Line on motability at present with the technology and comfort and sound option packs added. The A1 is currently not available on the scheme. The only Audi model currently available is the Q2.

I had an interesting chat at my Audi dealership recently. The motability specialist advised that, given the situation above and the current high advance payments, the best option for me at present would be to extend my lease on the A1. To get the same options added to a Q2 S Line would set me back almost £6 grand. The reality for me though is I don’t need anything larger than an A1.

It’s good to know there are some motability dealers out there who are genuinely honest and helpful in the current situation, with reduced availability on the scheme and higher advance payments.

The downside to that is you’ll pay the same for the car in the next 2 years as you would a new one. disregarding any ap paid or to be paid.

Imo, It won’t change in two years when you reach 5 years and are forced to pick a new car or leave the scheme.

Personally i think it will only get worse, looking at the ap’s of many newer cars with added tech or ev, hybrid’s etc they all cost more, alot more. Many cars have risen up to 26% in the last few years. Our allowance has not kept up either.

I guess that’s why i am terminating my contract early and leaving the scheme when my new car arrives in the next few weeks. I feel if i wait, the offer i getting right now or the car in the format i want/need, won’t be available to buy new and i’d rather buy new than used, especially if i am keeping the car for the longer term as i plan to do.. As i think that works for me now.

Only you know’s what will work for you and what you can or cannot do, but we all need a car that’s suitable and with the added things we like.

I’ve never ordered any extras on the scheme on my 4th car now.

All cars have to come with it as standard for the ap. One thing I need is adaptive cruise and a comfortable seat and many cars it’s only the top trims that have both. Acc on some is part of a pack at upto £1500 on the golf it came as standard and on my current civic.

Had an a3 as a hire car and really did miss the acc and no way i’d pay extra above the ap for it as after all it’s Motability who benefit from that when you return the car after 3 years.

So i guess if you did add extras it’s maybe worth then extending for 5 years or even maybe buying the car from Mb. Only you know what’s best for yourself. The way i see it is we leasing the car, so I look at it differently to if i actually own the car. Which is another reason i going back to owning a car.
