With the current situation our cars due to be changed in May21 when would you start looking around? Our current car has 31k on it so doubt motability will extend lease.

You can’t order a new vehicle until you are in the last  3 months of your lease

But you can look around for whatever you need at anytime

Like @file28 says, you can start looking whenever you like. There’s no harm in looking as you could even rule some cars out if they’re not suitable when you seen them up close.

id also keep in mind that between now and then there will three (I think) quarterly updates to the scheme so there’s a chance a car you like could disappear so I wouldn’t set my heart on anything just yet. At the same time new cars could join which tick all the boxes for you.

i hope you manage to find something suitable.

It’s also worth bearing in mind a new quarter for pricing will start in April 2021 so if your ahead of the game and know what you want, you could order before 01.04.21 and potentially protect yourself from any AP increases.

Same here Mike. Due to change 1st March next year which means I can order from 1st December… which isn’t that far away now – about 10-weeks or so. I must have watched several million YouTube videos & read another million car forum reviews too!!! I always do this every time I get near changeover though. It’s kept me sane during lockdown to be fair although the missus thinks I’m incredibly sad lol.

To be fair – I definitely do my homework and I haven’t chosen a bad/unsuitable car yet in almost 20-years on the scheme!

I hope to test drive a few cars on my list in the coming weeks. I love the Toyota GR Sport 2 litre & the new Golf 8 R-Line looks good and would also be more than suitable for my needs… although I’m not sure about those touch screens in the cabin. My very first car ever was a Mk.I Golf many years ago now which I remember fondly.

The rise in AP’s and car prices in general is a tad worrying though. It’s strange really because I would have thought that after a pandemic like we’ve just had (and indeed – are still going through), car manufacturer’s would be discounting their models left, right & centre in order to get us buying again. Instead, all I seem to read is that the motor industry are increasing prices across the board in the face of a looming worldwide recession! I was honestly expecting, midway through the covid outbreak some months ago, really decent AP’s come this December when I can order. Looks like I am going to be somewhat disappointed on that note! 🙁

Solent I love the CHR hybrid but I’d so love to see  Toyota Corolla design hybrid saloon in person but they are so rare ! Both CHR design hybrid and Corolla design hybrid saloon £995 at the moment

Just wish the new Golf hybrid had more equipment standard like Toyota

Agree about the new Golf. I’ve been looking at the R-Line with an AP of £999. Sounds reasonable… until you realise there’s no electric folding mirrors, no rear view camera, no heated seats, and the standard wheels are extremely dull! Folding mirrors, camera, heated seats & decent wheels will mean another £1,500 of options to get the car how I would want it. That’s a hefty AP.

The Corolla GR Sport however comes with all that and more… even a HUD! Granted, it’s a tad over £2,000 AP as well – but it just looks sooooo gorgeous in white/black bi-tone – to me anyway.

I have loved every minute in my C-HR… but it’s time to change to something different for the next 3-years.

As soon as you touch the boot handle and press it to open it Mike, the car will unlock. You don’t have to take the key out of your pocket. My key stays in my pocket the whole time – even when I’m driving. I leave home with it in my pocket & never get it out until I get back home & put it on the side.

I do prefer an actual key and what i am really liking now is no stop/start either it is bliss.

On the golf i hated it, just as you pulled up to a junction it would cutout just as you see it’s clear and you can go. So i’d always have to turn it off..

Vw’s new model is to sell you  many extras and alot are already on the car and just need activating by the dealer. They offer very poor value imo right now, The T-roc is a pure ripoff. The new golf imo is rather ugly and you right about the rimms OMG. Bet wolfburg say they to reduce drag and emmisions.

New A3 looks very good though, but the Ap might be too much for some to justify when / if it comes on the scheme but probally no acc as standard. Had a A3 hire car from avis prestege and i did miss the acc.

On lots of cars acc is an extra least vw got that right. While some other makers give loads as standard.

To me Acc was one of those things i 100% need, with the slow speed follow that an auto gives, I cannot do without that. The honda sport i did get, is still not on the scheme. So glad i got it, is a dream to drive and has everything i really need. The corrolla was just to small for me.

I had to look at endless specs and configs to findout/ compare trims and other info on alot of cars and it is a huge pain, but needs to be done. Well before Imo. So you armed with knowledge when you goto look and test drive the contenders.

Alot of vids are press releases or they selling cars so be very careful as they do not have all the trims and engine combos and can differ hugely. I’d never get a vw match version again, because of the cheap, uncomfortable seats.

Fact is though you can only order once you recieve that letter from mbo and you’ve got it for 3 years.

That annoys me too rox whenever motoring journalists review a car. They are always loaded with extra cost options with the journos saying ” The XXX starts from just £21,000 – but our test car, with its options, cost almost £32,000″. You have to pay close attention when watching videos & your best bet is to read what is & what isn’t standard on a manufacturer’s website when configuring a car for your needs.
