Car no longer suitable

      Hi guys

I have a question I’m not sure anyone can answer but I’ll give it a go.

We recently got our second motability leased car (Vauxhall corsa) and are only two months in to the lease, unfortunately health has changed and my husband who’s lease it is is now having to use a wheelchair, which is almost impossible to get in such a small car.

I don’t suppose anyone knows if we are able to swap the car for a different one or cancel this lease and take out another?

never envisioned this prior to taking the car or we would have gotten a suitable one in the first place. It’s a beautiful little car, just no longer practical and we haven’t had any issues arise before with the scheme so it isn’t something we have had to face.

      many thanks in advance

      Rita

Your best speaking with Motability, explaning to them yur husbands health has deterioated in the 2 months you have had the car and he now needs a wheelchair, which makes the car unsuitable. There are fees for terminating early (upto £250) however, these are in most cases waivered for health reasons.

Your health can change quite quickly, and Motability understand this.

Give them a call and tell them the new change in circumstances, they are very accommodating and you should not incur the £250 fee.

But like everything else, phone them and tell them your change in circumstances.

Like Kezo says, contact Motability. I’ve always found them to be really helpful.

I’ve just contacted Motability myself via the bot feature on the Motability website concerning my own lease it’s not as fast as telephone but it worked okay, usually I would have used the phone but a combination of a sore throat and head cold the phone wasn’t a option. Motability are allowing me to cancel my lease they are even waving the £250.

Thank you very much for your replies, I will contact them tomorrow.

its reassuring to know that there’s a chance it can be cancelled.

with cancelling it, does that then make you unable to order another through the scheme, or a waiting period? We aren’t really in a position to purchase our own right now with how the general cost of living is for most people

                Hi @meaks93

Sorry to read about your worsening circumstances…

As advised by @kezo and others, please do contact Motability and make them aware. They are very supportive and will be able to offer you options.

In our case we terminated a lease 2 years early, and ordered a larger car, with minimal additional cost, as the penalty cost was offset by the good condition bonus  (which is applied by pro-rata).

motability are great i’m on my second change of vehicle in under 3 years (1st vehicle developed fault) replacement vehicle is no longer suitable due to new medical conditions, because I have already changed once and had the fee waived I didn’t mind that I needed to pay £250 to cancel this one because the pro’s of changing outweigh the cons of keeping what I have.

They are very understanding and never had an issue with dealing with them, i’ve found everyone to be kind and understanding, when my first vehicle had faults I was contacted by motability 3 days in a row by the third day we had a resolution which was to change the car.

Stuck with my choice at the moment. My Astra has been at the garage for a month now waiting for a software patch since the current one fried my screens and safety features. Been struggling with my knees recently so getting in and out of it is a right kerfuffle. But i’m still waiting on my PIP renewal (8 months since sending back the forms) so i can’t exactly order a new car.
