      Hi,

Looking for a bit of advice here.

Only just got. my PIP though (it doesn’t kick in for a couple of weeks)so been looking around and test driving cars as im new to the scheme, long story short I fell in love with a car with a large-ish AP on it, no problems I thought to myself and walking out feeling full of the joys etc..

I have obviously picked up the car yet as the pip hasn’t kicked in, but I’ve had a household disaster and its ended up with me needing a new boiler which is costing a painful amount to say the least, this has frankly more or less cleared my swing out for now and im unable to proceed with the car, the question is can I cancel the order?

I haven’t entered the PIN number and while its something I don’t like doing there simply isn’t a way round round it, it is one of those things but I don’t want to get in trouble t=with the scheme or dealer and have only just found this forums please be gentle and I await your answers pleaee

      thanks 🙂

If you haven’t collected the car and entered your PIN you are free to cancel at any time. If you paid a voluntary deposit to the dealer, you will have to take getting that back up with them – any deposit you pay before collection is 100% between you and the dealer and nothing to do with Motability.

The dealer has no legal rights to demand a deposit as they act as agent for Motability, explain the situation to the Manager of the dealers and I recon they will reimburse you as they can cancel the Order

Hi Briggsy, sorry to hear about your boiler problems never a good time but this time of year is the worst.as for the car ,as you have just ordered then there will not be a problem just explain to the dealer all will be well.with regard to the deposit issue the dealership absolutely can ask for a deposit and motability are a little quiet and woolly on this issue .best of luck

Hi Briggsy have you thought about applying for a grant to help you with your situation? Obviously you need to meet the criteria but nothing to lose in asking.

Leaving the car aside a minute I too found myself in that situation of needing a new boiler a year after becoming disabled and had British Gas quote me near on £3,000 for a new boiler 10 years ago.

Before signing on the dotted line for the boiler I by chance came across a scheme going back then under the Warm Front or Warm Homes, can’t remember exact name but because I was on the then DLA the scheme gave me a grant to install a new boiler but with their contractors and two weeks later the new boiler was in.

I think that scheme finished a few years ago but worth checking if they do something similar today as long as you haven’t got ten’s of thousands in the bank you might get help.

Chris we had the same in 2005 our boiler failed big time, they replaced the boiler with a combi boiler including removing the old hot water tank and alternations to the plumbing plus they came round and installed cavity wall and loft insulation. It all came within the grant at the time we did not have to contribute.

Unfortunately I have suffered a brain injury and occasionally say the wrong thing.
