Cancelling a motability order

      Hi all,

Apologies if this has been covered previously.

I placed an order for a mobility vehicle about a month ago. The lead time is 3-5 months, so there’s still quite a bit of time until the car is ready.

I’m new to the scheme and did not pay the advanced payment when the order was placed.

I no longer want to go ahead with this particular car. How would I go about cancelling the order and what are the possible consequences if any?

Would appreciate some guidance on the matter.

I had to hand back a car early for health reasons and never got the GCB and didn’t know it was a thing if you cancelled before the 3 yr term. Would never have expected to receive it

As explained, you don’t get a pro rata refund of GCB, but you should have had a pro rata refund of your AP? Hopefully you did?

It’s also worth noting that if a car is returned early you don’t get any pro rata refund on the cost of any options that you’ve added either. That can result in a very expensive mistake for some people.

@phil As @JMC correctly states, you only get a good condition bonus if you keep the car for the full 3 years and there’s no pro-rata payment. The advisor gave you duff info saying that it was due to getting another EV. If you surrender early you don’t get any GCB, regardless of reason. The only pro rate refund is on the AP. Maybe that’s what the £200 was that they initially referred to – the pro rata AP refund minus the deduction of the early termination fee? If so, they should pay that, so worth chasing.

I’m just going off what the advisor said when I was asking about changing the car. As we’ve always kept our cars for the 3 yr I’ve not known any different, so when she said we’d get around £200 back then we were OK with that.

Worth mentioning that the advisor today said we didn’t get the GCP due to getting another electric car when we stated that we wanted a petrol/diesel (which was not true) and not because we hadn’t kept the car for the full 3yr.

Anyway, it was just a mess that didn’t need to happen if they had just got their info right from the start.

@phil Unfortunately the advisor is giving you duff information. As previously stated, nobody gets any pro rata GCB, so you weren’t being punished due to your choice of car! Did you get a pro rata refund of your AP though, as you should have done? That’s why I was wondering if there was some confusion in the conversation and the £200 that you were due was the pro rata AP refund, minus the early termination fee? If so, that would make more sense.
