I’m looking at possibly switching my mum from Octopus fix which is ending to British Gas and add on Peak Save Sunday, so she can charge her Kona electric. She doesn’t do many miles and does her washing in the day etc, so a dedicated EV tariff with inflated peak rate electricity prices arent required.

A couple of questions for those with BG:

1) How do you find BG and their billing accuracy.

2) Has anybody joined with an Aclara Smets1 meter and managed t get onto a fixed tariff, as the meter has been adopted by the DCC, and has worked on Octopus fix without issue.

@kezo we’ve never had an issue with the billing or British Gas in general, we have a smart meter and pay with direct debit. If a better deal comes out from British Gas you can switch without penalty, I check every few months.

The majority of the call centres are UK based but the do have 1 in South Africa.

Another good thing is the green peak save events, if they know in advance there’s lots of sun / wind they give you a random 2 hours of half price, they’ll email you, but you must respond to the email to take part. We also got 4 hours on both Christmas Day and Boxing Day. Our washing machine and dishwasher are all switched to Sunday now.

All in all were very happy with them. Like your mum, we don’t use enough to switch to an overnight tariff.

Ive also noticed the standing charge is cheaper, though the kWh is a fraction dearer which is neither or there, especially, as your gaining on Sundays, chritmas etc, rather than a couple of hours here and there and would make it cheaper to do the few miles she does since loosing my dad.

I will run it pass her tonight and do another quote to make sure nothings changed from a couple days ago and let you know, then perhaps if you want, you can give me your detail code or however it works and refer a friend and both get something out of it?
