Hi Whichmobility people
I’m new to the scheme, haven’t driven since 2018 as had some bad health and have ended up with a damaged right leg. we have two kids and a zafira at the moment but i can’t drive it , love the huge boot. really want another huge boot car 600 litres and above. Only problem is the AP and confusion over the grants, initially thought a skoda kodiaq, petrol and need automatic as I need a left foot accelerator adaptation. Will they just offer me something else seen as the AP is £1845. ideally probably a low sill and lots of leg room is ideal for me, im pretty tall with long legs. thanks for any advice

Newbie1892Hi, I hope you are well, I too am new to the scheme, I opted for a 1.4 vw sharan, they have the 1.4 automatic on the scheme for a ap of 1399, or you could look at the touran I haven’t looked at the ap on these though, Ford galaxy and smax way too much ap for me.
I love the big boot on the sharan even when in seven seat mode the boot space is good.
anyway happy test driving of vehicles that you choose, but most importantly choose a vehicle that’s right for you.
October 4, 2020 at 12:32 am #125860thanks, Newbie1892, yes I have those saved, will get onto a VW dealer on Monday and see about having a look, unfortunately, I won’t be able to drive until it’s adapted! but ill get the other half to give it a good rev for me. Just out of interest whats your wait time on the Sharan? did you ask for any reduction in ap? many thanks
October 4, 2020 at 11:04 am #125886The VW Touran SEL is a bargain but is smaller than the Sharan but has plenty of boot space if used as a 5 seater with seats 6 & 7 folded down.
I think the Touran is being withdrawn soon as the Volkswagen website is saying “Stock orders only” but then I thought the Sharan was being discontinued last year and its still here.

Newbie1892Hi Roger T,
my wait time the dealer says is 20 weeks, but they had stock but it wasn’t the colour I wanted, I didn’t haggle over ap as I didn’t know you could do that.
car ordered 7/08/20
with factory 10/08/20
still waiting for a build date☹️
October 4, 2020 at 11:46 am #125897I’ve not followed the haggling scene for awhile but I’ve not seen many, or any come to that, not that I’ve been really looking, but not seen any dealers advertising their deals here or elsewhere so I think the C-19 might have put the cap on that for awhile so I don’t think Roger would have got far anyway but then, you never know. ?
October 4, 2020 at 11:58 am #125899Sorry just noticed that Marshalls are still doing deals but not as good as they used to be.?
Forget what I’ve said as I seemed to have posted in the wrong thread. I’ll get my coat..?
October 4, 2020 at 12:01 pm #125900Touran 1.5tsi SEL DSG AP is £1099 which has always been a bargain on here. Boot is huge 600 litres + it’s a really good square shape and really usable in 5 seat mode. Middle row also slides forward then you get around 900 litres. One of the most underrated cars imo due to been an out of fashion mpv.

If you want a huge boot with a low entry, if you can can cope with its somewhat van-type looks, have you considered the Vauxhall Combo Life which in automatic guise starts at £699 on the scheme. It is the same vehicle as the Citroen Berlingo/Peugeot Rifter just differently badged and cheaper than the Berlingo on the scheme.
Boot space is 770 litres, trumping pretty much every other five-seat MPV on the scheme. Fold the rear seats down and this expands to a total load capacity of 3,000 litres.
The seven-seater which has a starter AP of £749, used in 5 seat configuration gives a boot space over 1,000 litres!
Despite its looks, many road tests say it doesn’t handle like a van and gives you all the boot space you would ever need.

Matt BHi Roger,
Welcome to the forum and scheme. Good question regarding boot space. Like you and plenty others, storage Space in the back was a number one priority for the 2 cars we have had on the scheme to date.
We found that the dimensions can make a real difference. For example the Kuga and Sportage had (2017) very similar boot capacities on paper but when we visited the Kuga was narrower which caused us problems. I’d suggest going through the car scheme search filtering Large cars, estates and SUV’s. Note the acceptable boot capacity of vehicles in your price range, agree a top 3/5 and then visit them with ur mobility aids and see how they fit. That’s is what we did both times and settled on a Tuscon and more recently and Allspace.
Best of luck with your search Roger, hopefully you will find the perfect car for your family. ??
October 4, 2020 at 8:43 pm #125983If they brought out a Vw touran size EV it would be another best seller. Our Touran was the best all round family car we’ve ever had, in 8 years it had one broken front spring, not surprising as it was used a lot fully laiden.
October 5, 2020 at 3:26 pm #126048thanks for all your comments guys, really helpful! I’ve been told I need to get a MAC test for my Motability needs , is this a normal part of the process? they have said it could take 12 weeks 🙁 to get the appointment. motability were really nice on the phone though
October 5, 2020 at 3:59 pm #126051Hi Roger, could you elaborate as to what a MAC test is?
Never heard of it before but could be something that’s just passed me by.
When I became disabled I looked for advice at one of the government assessment centres who wanted £75 up front to take me out in an adapted car so told them where they could get off and in the end got all the advice I needed to drive as a disabled person from my local VW dealer’s Motability expert.
Apparently if you’ve been referred to the assessment centres by DVLA they don’t charge but DVLA just change my license from all cars to automatics only so there was no referral.

GaryChrisk, can you link a Web page that says touran from stock only, as I can’t seem to find that.

Thought I’d pop back into this thread and update my statement about the VW Touran, having just down loaded the Motability price list from the VW-UK site there is no mention of the Touran being “Stock Orders Only”.
When I tried to configure the Touran as a private buyer last month it said “stock only” so hopefully it was just a temporarily stop in production.
October 7, 2020 at 12:06 pm #126230The huge boot sector has been destroyed by the Ford Tourneo Connect and the Peugeot Rifter being removed from the Scheme, the Citroen Berlingo has increased by £1500 AP since the Covid break.
Thankfully the Vauxhall Combo Life has survived and still offers good pricing, starting at £99 for a manual and £699 auto.
If applying for a grant this is the car they will more than likely point you towards.

I believe the Tourneo Connect has been taken off as Ford are not able to supply any into the UK until well into next year.
The Vauxhall Combo Life is on a 6 month wait list as well at the moment.
