Best Broadband – ISP Provided Router

My Sky TV / Broadband deal is up. After 25 years I’ve taken the decision to ditch them. Mid contract £10 increase was the final straw, plus we are watching less TV.

Anyone got any recommendations for broadband providers, I’m thinking more about the strength / quality of the router they supply. I’m not interested in Virgin, the cable that supplies my house goes up a garden wall, we have a monitored alarm system and it would be easy to cut the connection.

It’s a monitored alarm that’s wired into the phone socket, if the alarm triggers it rings the control room and they can listen in. If we go voip which I’m hearing adverts for on the radio saying is happening, the system won’t work. I’m assuming voip is happening when we get fibre? Ive just checked Openreach and it says fibre is planned between now and December 2026.

Correct, you may find the link I provided useful 🙂

Cheers @Kezo, I’ve just had a look, seems it will need to be upgraded to wifi or 4G.

This is a link for a guide to broadband speeds for streaming for the likes of Netflix, unless you are streaming 4K you don’t actually need that much, but if you are watching for example Netflix on one device and Disney+ on another the speeds needed will have to be added together, hopefully someone will find it usefull.
