Put your seatbelt on. Put it on now. I said NOW!

Now, be aware of blindspots. Reverse off the driveway carefully. There’s a car coming… I SAID THERE’S A CAR COMING! I’M BRAKING FOR YOU, IDIOT!

Right, select “Drive”. I said DRIVE. You’re already in reverse! Moron.. tsk

Keep your hands on the wheel. Stop letting go! I’m warning you!

Lookout for that BMW coming up behind you on the right. I SAID LOOKOUT, NOT PULL OUT! FOR GOODNESS SAKE MAN!!

Pay attention! Traffic is slowing ahead. Slow down. Slow down! I Said SLOW DOWN! NOW WE’RE GONNA CRASH!! AAAARGH!!!!

Thank goodness, nearly home. Reverse into that gap between the two cars. Not very good are you?  You nearly hit both the one in front and behind. Twice.

Right, off you pop….. IDIOT! There was a car coming when you opened the door! Don’t you ever see anything??

Oh, by the way, come back and get your phone – you left it in the wireless charger again. Sigh. You have to be told everything, don’t you? Don’t forget to lock the doors or I’ll send you an alert on your phone

This is not my Mother in Law – it’s the flaming car! Next time I want four wheels and an engine please. Just another day in the life of a Kona owner!

exactly why i dont want all this techy stuff. at the very least you should be able to switch it off easily.

preferably order a car without it.

Absolutely Brilliant Adrian. You should put it on Hyundai’s Face book page 🙂

I think you missed “wake up you idiot can’t you see you can go now…. the vehicle in front is pulling away.

It used to do my head in with my previous car (VW Golf) saying “dead locks ! check manual for information” every time I got out of the car.

Current car tells me every five minutes “Battery discharging, run the engine while listening to the infotainmet centre”. I wonder what the environmentalist would say about that had I really kept the engine ticking over while listening to music while waiting for her in doors to finish her shopping…

… and what’s that all about every time I turn on the car having to agree I’ve read the safety information for the satnav before preceding, yes I have read it a thousand times you imbeciles. ?

Yup,  @ChrisK I get the same “dead locks” waffle every time I turn off. Got it on Skoda Superbs too. Anyone know what it means?

The deadlocks message means under no circumstances leave your key in the ignition, and get out and shut the door. If you do I will deadlock the doors on you and then you will be in bother. Especially if you have the 2 keys on the key ring.

When I questioned the dealer about it when I had the Superb, he advised me it’s  to warn you that the doors will be deadlocked when you lock them… In case you have kids in the car.

Though no car ive had has beeped and bonged with some form of warning than my Hyundai. Must be a Korean thing!

Thanks for that, folks. What a silly thing to make a car do. Moreover, why tell you about it in a completely indecipherable manner!? At least I know now. It’s like time travel back to the days when you could slam-lock a car door to lock it and thereby lock your keys inside (possibly with engine running.) Ho hum…

That sounds wrong. I can imagine circumstances where it could be unsafe. Is it a feature or a fault?

It’s a feature. There are some stupid things on the car like you can’t display the sat nav while you are on the hands free mobile. It’s what I call cheap Chinese sh1t.

Does it do the same on regen 1. Sorry I forgot MG are a formula 1 car so I better address it as kers 1 🙂

All I can say is you get a lot of car for the money. It doesn’t suit me due to it’s range but it would suit a lot of people looking to switch to electric.

I’d like an EV but I’d like to see 400miles plus from mainstream manufacturers and as of yet there are none on in my price bracket or indeed on motability.

Having to charge the car twice a day when I’m on a long journey is adding around 3 hours to my working day.

@Elliot, what’s your range? I’ve had to adapt my driving a bit, and as a typically impatient middle aged man that was quite difficult.

The official range of the Kona is 300 miles, and like most manufacturers claims I wouldn’t get anywhere near that if I drove it like I did my old Kuga. But, as horrible as it feels at first just getting used to driving a bit slower extends range enormously, and appears to do so much more in an EV than ICE.

I’ve had as little as 180 miles from the Kona (actually recharged at 150 miles driven with 30 miles left in the battery) after absolutely caning it to London. But on the other hand, I went to Bristol on Friday, with a couple of minor detours en route. I set out 30 minutes earlier than Waze suggested, pegged the smart cruise control to the limit (not 5mph over) and for several very long stretches was happy to sit in the slipstream of an HGV or a Megabus (which are limited to 65mph) and managed to drive around 320 miles and still have nearly 40 miles left. Total journey time (there and back) was less than 30 minutes longer than Waze had predicted, but had I set the speed limiter at 80 (naughty, but that’s how I drove the Kuga) that would would have saved maybe 30 minutes on the road, but cost me at least an hour charging – and that’s assuming that whenever I rolled into a MSA there was an available, working charger.

At times, caning it up and down the M1, I’ve come perilously close to 0% SoC and had to queue for up to 2 hours before even being able to plugin, no choice, we couldn’t risk crawling to the next MSA (and might have had to wait there, too).

@Adrian, I get on average around 180 miles out of a full charge with mixed driving. A few weeks ago I travelled down South in the dark with the heater on and the adaptive cruise control set at 75mph. I got 140 miles out of a full charge. The spec says 250 miles but I think that is impossible even on the economy setting.
