Hi sorry if this is a silly question, I’m due to order a new car from start of march, however I was wondering if maybe the advanced payments will drop come April due to the mobility component increasing from £64.50 to £71 per week. I’m only wondering because as far as I know the advanced payments for WPMS have been lower due to that benefit being a slightly higher @£72 (I think?)

hi @nak95 i think the dwp/pip etc have alread been built into pricing as the appropriate authority for their increase is in place. i think it was built into new prices from 1st oct. but wpms hasnt been confirmed at a new rate so it will see some reduction in ap’s once the appropriate parliamentary action is taken.
thats why some ap’s the dwp/pip ap’s are lower than wpms where normally wpms ap’s are about £1200 lower than dwp/pip.
for example the juke hybrid is £499 on dla and £623 on wpms normally if dla is £499 wpms would be zero.
@Bigdave is the expert on this conundrum but i think the short answer is the increase in civilian allowances and afip etc have already been built into the prices its just wpms thats awaited.January 9, 2023 at 6:06 pm #205436although we all live in hope that they go down anyway for whichever allowance.
what have you got your eye on anything in particular yet?
January 9, 2023 at 6:22 pm #205440January 9, 2023 at 7:00 pm #205444thats right at the moment @kezo, for example the juke hybrid ive ordered at todays price is fixed at 72 per week and a £623 ap which as you say will give me about £28 a month rather than total allowance which would give motability any future increases.
however once the increase is ratified i suspect the ap will fall to 0ap and the weekly amount will increase to almost total allowance. and the differential will return to roughly £1200 on the ap’s.
so by april if wpms goes up to £79 odd and a civilian ap is £1200 wpms will be zero but the wpms recipient will be paying more weekly over the 3 years evening things out
January 9, 2023 at 8:04 pm #205454@mitch That’s such a thorough answer thank you. I hadn’t realised the the AP’s between pip and wpms had already changed as it’s been quite a while since I’ve actually looked through motability’s site.. it does give me some reassurance that if I do order in march I won’t immediately regret it come the new quarter in April.

Yeah I’ve currently have my eye on either the Kodiak or the Tiguan Allspace as I need a high up 7 seater in an automatic

January 9, 2023 at 8:26 pm #205463well dont discount the nissan xtrail for 3999 i sat in one on sunday very nice its only the base model but its epower . its only just come on the scheme so the ap may go down like the jukes did. also the ap going down is not the end of the world, your dealer can simply cancel the order and re input it at the lower price. thats what ive done the juke was £823 when i ordered in december and its now £623 and my dealer is amendding it this week.
i will have to be careful if they amend the ap in march but make it full allowance as the weekly payment i will have to get the abacus out to see which is more beneficial.
the rule of thumb is you pay the ap agreed at the point of ordering but can voluntarily cancel and reinput if the ap goes down but if the ap goes up you still pay the ap at point of order not the new higher ap.

Haven’t completely discounted the xtrail yet, in fact I think it’s my favourite out of the 3, but I’m trying to wear my sensible hat haha.
However from what I’ve seen from the quick 30 minutes I looked them up on YouTube, is that the xtrail has the smallest boot by far. Also I had a very poor/demeaning experience with my nearest nissan dealership and I’d have abit of anxiety going back there.
January 10, 2023 at 12:32 am #205474I would of liked the X Trail e-power but, if it was available in Tecna trim. I think the e-4orce economy suffers too much. I’d only have the 5 seater (575l boot space) but, its smaller than the 620l in my medium sized Tuscon
Going back to text drive both the QQ and Xtrail Wednesday.

MaccaHow did your test drives go Kezo?
January 12, 2023 at 8:45 pm #205902How did your test drives go Kezo?
Hi Macca, the Mb guy at the dealers emailed Tuesday saying that he wouldn’t be in work yesterday as something came up and would this morning for this afternoon or a day that suits me. Any how I delayed going today because it was close to little comming home from school and would be pushed to test drive both the QQ and X Trail, so ring Monday and arrange a midmorning testdrive prob tue or wed.
The X Trail will probably be out of my shortlist because of the trim level on the scheme, I’m hoping the QQ will be big enough but, theTecna trim hasn’t got full(fake) leather like Tecna X Trail that isn’t on the scheme and I prefer.
Anyhow still worth me test driving both, even if it means waiting/hoping the X Trail Tecna joins the scheme at a reasonable AP, but we will see 🙂

MaccaYeah, I’m playing the waiting game on the Tekna trim too.
Our XC40 has been a belter in the time we’ve had it but I would like to get back into something the size of an XT. We had a Hyundai Santa Fe before the Volvo, and the size drop was noticeable given I’m 6’2″ and like to have room and height.

I like the QQ e-power, it’s whether it will be quite big enough and Mike700 is getting early 50’s to late 60’s out of his, which will be 10mpg or better that the XT e-power. Apart from been unsure on size the fact the seats aren’t full leather or what ever it is, is nagging me. The XT would more than be big enough but, I wouldnt take the N conecta based on our needs. The other thing the XT is less fuel efficient but, I would compromise for the right spec.
I want to test drive both to get the feel, then probably request an extended test drive and decide from there. The other thing I’m expecting/hope the price to drop in Q2 an the XT Tecna joins at a reasonable AP.
January 13, 2023 at 7:20 am #205922
MaccaYeah gotta say the AP is just way too much for the N-Connecta spec of XT. If I was having to order the next car now I would be looking the CX5 Sport Edition over before that.
Fortunately though, time is on our side so we can see how tge scheme develops from hereJanuary 13, 2023 at 9:50 pm #206045@Kezo are you getting an early termination, or is your Tuscon lease nearing it’s end?
January 13, 2023 at 11:44 pm #206056@Kezo are you getting an early termination, or is your Tuscon lease nearing it’s end?
Early termination – Only had Tuscon Ultimate since March 22 (ordered Dec 21). I hastely rushed into having as there wasn’t alot on the scheme at the time that suited our needs and was nearing the end of a 2yr extension on my previous car. The Tuscon is a nice car other than its manual, so playing havoc with my knees etc. I was told by the hospital on my last visit I needed at least 1 knee replacement. My hips aren’t much better either!
January 13, 2023 at 11:58 pm #206059@gliders – as youre also aware the mpg ain’t the best from your Sportage and although I said I liked the Tuscon, this would be my only negative with the car. I can’t say it being manual is a negative, as it was my own fault thinking I would be ok.
Not had the issues you and others have with the GPF – gues I was lucky there!
January 14, 2023 at 8:49 am #206068@mitch That’s such a thorough answer thank you. More or less spot from mitch.
Motability have priced in April 2023’s increases already (hence the pricing differential where vehicles are ‘Total Allowance’ for both payment streams has increased to £1285 in favour of WPMS).
However, where vehicles may fall into fixed weekly payments, they cannot currently exceed £72 per week (max current WPMS). Thus, in Motability’s re-price the only way they can ‘price in’ the increase cost of vehicles is to increase the AP’s for WPMS.
In times where annual increases are low, as they have been for a number of years, it doesn’t really affect things very much (just a few pounds) but the forthcoming 10.1% increase (although still not yet officially confirmed for War Pensions) has exacerbated and highlighted the differential in pricing, particularly in fixed weekly payments cases.
By April, in the next price list, the WPMS AP’s on fixed weekly payments should drop for WPMS (however most vehicles will probably tip into ‘Total Allowance’ to increase future payments with future annual rises) or go up to the new revised weekly WPMS weekly payment.
If on WPMS and one can overcome the current increase in AP (ex-service charities may be able to help with AP’s), then as you will keep all future increases, including April’s expected 10.1% if getting a vehicle with fixed weekly payments now, it could well turn out to be a decent deal overall.
January 14, 2023 at 9:00 am #206071thanks @BigDave, my order is a case in point the juke hyrid is currently £72/week with an ap £621 whereas the pip is £499. it was £823 when i ordered and i am pushing my dealer to change it now but not in april or whenever mota build in the new rate as it will go to 0 ap but poss total allowance. so it will pay me to eat the current ap to keep the 3 years of increases. as they will be in excess of £1000.
