Hi guys – Some advice would be appreciated ! My current car is due for change on 22nd July, so I can place an order from late April, but if as at present there’s nothing suitable on the scheme I’ll have to leave and in April order from elsewhere though its unlikely an alternative will be available for 22nd July …. Question is how flexible is scheme extension and if I extend can I exit the scheme when delivery from outside is ready, maybe just a few months later – Sad state of affairs but we are where we are …

nearer the date, you can extend up to 2 years. but you can get a new car on scheme anytime in that 2 years without issue

Hi Robbie. As Struth says, but I would add that the 2 year extension (which you can stop at any time) will also apply if you decide to leave the scheme. So, in your case, it would be best to extend for 2 years and then keep the car until you get a new one, whether that be from the scheme or elsewhere. You can end the lease the same day that you pick up your new car, regardless of whether it’s a lease car, private car, new or secondhand. Extensions are incredibly flexible and suit situations such as yours perfectly.

Yes extend for 2 years and you can order a new motability car or end the lease at any time in the 2 years but be aware if you order a new motability car you will need at least 12 months remaining on your PIP award to order.

I would just add that when you ask for a 2 year extension don’t mention that you might leave if nothing suitable turns up, more so if your current mileage on your car is above 15,000 miles. Just a simple “can’t find a suitable car” will do.
