Advanced payment

I was just wondering if you’ve placed a order but not paid the advanced payment yet and the payment drops in price as the new list drops in the next quarter but you haven’t picked up the car yet , will the dealer still charge you the advanced payment as it was when you placed the order ?.

Example – advanced payment at time of ordering £2,899 but then drops to £2,499 next quarter but no payment was made when ordering and car still not delivered.

Hi Jax. The AP that you pay (on pick up) is the AP that applied at the time you ordered the car. However, if the price drops before you pick up the car, a helpful dealer will cancel and reorder on the Motability system, which takes less than 10 minutes. The Motability ‘order’ isn’t actually an order, it’s just admin. The actual order is with the manufacturer, which is unaffected by this. It happened with our current car and the dealer did it for us without us even asking, but that’s exceptional!

We had similar, dealer charged full price. We wrote to Motability and they agreed to refunded the difference.

Thank you for this information, I shall keep this if I need it. I’m due to pick up my car at the end of February 2022 so the list will change 1 January so the price might come down (probably not) but wanted to know.

You are welcome. With the way that the scheme is going, the AP is more likely to go up, or the car may be removed altogether, but the good news is that you will still be able to get your car and at the AP that applied when you ordered it.

I agree with you Glos Guy, exactly the same happened with us in 2016, so you should get the lower price, if applicable.

That’s the way I’m looking at things at this moment in time GG, I’ve ordered a Tiguan R-Line but would prefer the Elegance or the Allspace versions and hope one or the other comes up on the scheme by the start of Q1 22, AP price allowing, but if neither happens I’ve got my foot on the ladder and the AP lodged and will go head with the R-Line.

The other thing in my favour that I never had when we had the WLTP fiasco causing car delays a few years back is my current car is OK so not too worried about long delays but I know others here don’t have that comfort and I know from my last change over its a pain playing the waiting game, literally.

Oh and if the price drops on the R-Line I will be asking to cancel and reorder.
