A reform councillor said to me that possibly, motability could see a more controlled scheme, in lame terms he believes that motability will end up with 300 cars to choose from with very selective models so form 627 or which ever way around it is now to 300 car choices including wavs would be very weird! I’m certainly not a fan of some of the cars on the scheme either! I posted this here as it’s concerning to us all as cars are slowly dropping like flies but imagine 300 available cars and mainly SUVs not even crossovers
When we joined Motability there was a choice of around 5,000 cars – all ICE cars (EVs & PHEVs weren’t around then) and from manufacturers that we all knew. Now there’s well under 1,000 and once you deduct EVs (which aren’t suitable for everyone) the remaining dire choice comprises a lot of Chinese and Far Eastern brands that didn’t even exist a few years ago.
On that basis, if that trend continues and the scheme continues to decline, it is perfectly conceivable that we could end up in that sort of position. However, let’s be clear that a Reform councillor has absolutely no more insight into what the scheme may, or may not, become than any of us do, so is just taking a wild guess based on instinct and nothing more.
