The Black Box for Motability users was also discussed on Jeremy Vines BBC2 lunchtime show today.
Most of the arguments against were reasonably well articulated, although my wife’s reaction was interesting when several people mentioned that people driving with hand controls cannot drive smoothly compared to able bodied drivers. Her view, as someone who drove with hand controls for a number of years was “that’s rubbish”!
One chap from the Isle of Wight, who claimed that his wife was a Motability user (which I very much doubt) was very pro black boxes “especially for cars provided by a charity”. It sounded like the typical comment from someone who talks about “free cars”, oblivious to the fact that ‘free’ actually costs the customer £13k over 3 years plus the cost of AP, for a car that you never own!
