    I’ve seen Asda and Morrisons near me both be out of diesel at the same time a few times over the years, nothing to do with shortages they just ran out before the next delivery. I was once filling up with unleaded when the pump ran dry. These things just happen.

    That can’t happen Jojoe. Petrol stations shut off their tanks at a predetermined level, usually 3500 litres. With diesel it’s a little lower, maybe 2500 litres if there’s a national shortage.

    More likely the pump you were using was faulty and cut out.

    Speaking from experience as I work in a Sainsbury’s petrol station.

    Can you imagine the problems if all that sediment was to be pumped into customers’ tanks?

    Tanks get cleaned of any sediment every 6 months.
