Morning bit of a heads up if people don’t get out so much these days…
Fuel stations near me have signs saying no diesel, then only two petrol pumps open at a local Tesco.
Just paid for 45.82 litres at £140.9 per l resulting in payment of £64.56..
So if low on fuel, might be worth considering the situation if appointments etc are coming up soon..

As with the last time that this happened, there would have been no problem until false rumours start spreading that there’s a shortage, which causes people to panic buy, which then causes a shortage that would never have happened had the rumours not started 🤔🙄
March 18, 2026 at 7:39 am #345061Well yes glos guy could be right there, however the signs are up at Tesco..
For me when fuel is needed I just brim it usually when the warnings illuminate or sound on the vehicle..
So if there’s any like me this morning and don’t take much notice, as mentioned it’s just a heads up as what’s going on locally to me..
March 18, 2026 at 10:11 am #345703Don’t forget to load up on toilet paper too because all the paper we use comes through the Straights of Hormuz because that’s where all the forest are.
March 18, 2026 at 10:25 am #345708Well I would’ve but the queues through the car park were to long at Tesco, leading to the petrol station 😆, so gave that a miss.
No real change for me @Chris t as mentioned fill up to the max when needed..Just more expensive and noticed the signs..
March 18, 2026 at 10:51 am #345710If the Press get a hold of it from social media, it will go viral very quickly.
It could be the Tesco manager who miscalculated, or they had a sudden run on Diesel…lol
March 18, 2026 at 10:53 am #345712So your the one that spills diesel all over the road, because you over filled. 👁️👁️

Things can escalate quickly, as Glos guy mentioned panic buying..
March 18, 2026 at 11:05 am #345716I’d be amazed if it were me Joss, as I don’t use the stuff thankfully, however would’ve been out of luck if I did, wouldn’t have I 💦
March 18, 2026 at 11:34 am #345720Ahh Okay so your electric then. Confused with your comment ajn

Hybrid type vehicle Joss..March 18, 2026 at 12:54 pm #345724Just filled up at Tesco. No shortages and no queues. In and out with a full tank in 5 minutes as usual.
March 18, 2026 at 1:09 pm #345728Same for my Daughter GlossGuy, so Woodpecker could be right here…
Maybe this can go Joss
March 18, 2026 at 1:47 pm #345734I’ve seen Asda and Morrisons near me both be out of diesel at the same time a few times over the years, nothing to do with shortages they just ran out before the next delivery. I was once filling up with unleaded when the pump ran dry. These things just happen.

That can’t happen Jojoe. Petrol stations shut off their tanks at a predetermined level, usually 3500 litres. With diesel it’s a little lower, maybe 2500 litres if there’s a national shortage.
More likely the pump you were using was faulty and cut out.
Speaking from experience as I work in a Sainsbury’s petrol station.
Can you imagine the problems if all that sediment was to be pumped into customers’ tanks?
Tanks get cleaned of any sediment every 6 months.

Definitely happened, it was my first car in the late 1980’s. I’m convinced it ran out as it started spluttering. Maybe they didn’t cut the pumps off in the 1980’s.

March 18, 2026 at 3:34 pm #345739Filled car along with 20l jerry can just before prices increased and although my local journeys are battery electric, the Tucson, just can’t help itself having the engine running at high idle, using quarter of a tank for no particular reason.
March 18, 2026 at 5:37 pm #346590I filled up last night, cost me £3.65! (52kW) it didn’t last long, I did a 130 mile round trip at 6:30 this morning as I had a 25m briefing at Otterburn Range at 8am.
Back home and car back on charge again!. Octopus have already given me about 30% throughout the afternoon (must be a surplus of electrons somewhere) so it’s already up to 78% 🙂

March 18, 2026 at 6:44 pm #346594Phaedra, I’m guessing those figures are impressive, because personally I don’t understand it, must admit though its ignorance on my part..
What vehicle are you using..
March 19, 2026 at 7:43 am #346607So this is the quandary I now face.
I have an MG hybrid+ on order for delivery at the end of this month. Are these rising fuel prices the incentive I need to cancel my order and make the leap to fully EV?

Previous car: MG HS Exclusive in nice shiny black.
March 19, 2026 at 7:56 am #346608Morning Doug, for me I’m loving the MG, the saving on fuel from the Volvo (heavy right foot though admittedly) even the Wife has noticed.
When looking at the Mg, size, space and AP were a positive.
I have no idea the pricing of ev’s, installation for cables etc..
Not sure if price comes into it for you, but if I need to hand this car back for any reason then I’m not going short of the out lay of money either..

Personally, I wouldn’t base a decision on car choice on the current situation, which could well be over before you even take delivery of the car! Even if it drags on for some months, which is likely I would think, it will still be a short term issue in the scheme of things. Diesel has gone up the most, but petrol hasn’t gone up as much (in percentage terms) as I thought it might, although I suspect that it will go up more before it starts to come down again. With Trump facing mid term elections later this year, and cost of living being a major issue (especially in the U.S. where they all drive around in gas guzzlers), steps will be taken to calm things, especially oil prices, before too long. Besides, gas and electric prices are on the up as well, although if low running costs are your priority when choosing a car, and you can charge at home (essential) and the range isn’t t an issue for you, an EV will always work out cheapest.
If an EV suits you they make a lot of sense through Motability, as all the usual worries of buying an EV privately (high up front costs, crippling depreciation, high insurance costs, greater tyre wear, risk of battery damage in a crash, cost of a home charger etc etc) are completely removed. There’s also a half decent choice of them through the scheme, unlike ICE cars. I’d base your decision on your annual usage and ability to charge, rather than current fuel prices.
March 19, 2026 at 4:05 pm #347964@ ajn Sorry, it’s an EV!!
Charged to 100% last night, 41kWh for £2.88. The guess-o-meter currently showing 272 miles range, best I’ve had for a few months with the cr@ppy weather!.
Looks like prices will half in April, Octopus IntelligentGo customers are getting emails saying the off-peak rate is dropping from 7p to 3.49p. Not had mine yet but we will see.

March 19, 2026 at 5:07 pm #347974March 23, 2026 at 5:09 pm #348501Well as mentioned above by other members, ( @Woodpecker ) fuel stations seem to be fine for refuelling, no shortages..
@DougieB are you staying with MG ..-
