So if – as expected – the permitted mileage changes to 10000 per annum, I have a question…… I do around 20000 miles a year so am usually around the limit of the current mileage allowance. Having done some sums, I would still be better off even if/when it changes to 10000 sticking with my Motability vehicle and paying the 5p penalty per mile over. This would work out at £1500 that for me with the high mileage I do would still be more financially viable than buying my own car, even taking into account the PIP payments. My question is – do you think this is something Motability would permit so to speak, or say it is breaching their fair usage policy once things change?

Nothing has been confirmed either way by Motability yet, so your question cannot really be answered until the scheme changes are fully known.

However, I do believe the survey sent to some customers had talk of increasing the cost per mile over the permitted mileage to 28p per mile – if so, your sums maybe a bit skewed – see post #338305 in thread below:

    Motability Change page is live

However, until Motability confirm things it is really just speculation at this stage. For example, some people hereabouts speculated on Motability increasing the AP for higher mileage users. But it is all speculation.

Could be a case overall of prepare for the worst but hope for the best!

Perhaps keep your eye on the Motability website ‘changes’ page for any update:
