I certainly wouldn’t be worried about buying an EV without a heat pump. I’ve had an Enyaq without one for 2 years this week and never needed one. Real world tests by motoring journalist showed the same set up in a VW with a heat pump barely improved range by 5% and you would need to do in excess of 85k miles to recoup the cost. Simply not worth it.
I think I’ve just been spoiled by my Ariya, which came with one by default haha. That is good to know though so thank you :). I’ve never done the actual ‘maths’ on cost vs return. I drive so few miles. Car is up for renewal in April (can start looking next week apparently) and its not even done 7k yet! X_X.. but its been a lifeline getting me out of the house when needed.
The sad thing is I can’t even get my Ariya spec on the scheme (or from Nissan full stop, even off scheme) anymore :(. As it is an Advance with the Bose Tech Pack, it has the HUD, better sound system and the video mirror thing. The mirror thing on paper seems so daft, and just a ‘party trick’, but it’s been so useful for being able to see out the back when the car has stuff in it (as the rear window is actually kinda tiny). And the HUD is amazing, as I can keep my eyes fully on the road. I know I could ‘technically’ get an external HUD that just plugs into the ODB port thing, but it will never be as good as an OEM one.
Boggles my mind how tesla 3/Y drivers cope (and mini, I believe right?) having the speedo on the centre screen. Just seems kinda unsafe to have to take your eyes so far off the correct position. But *shrug*, I have never driven one, so I don’t know.
My real hope is that Motability deem me worthy of an extension, as the Ariya cost a ****ing fortune in AP, I’m still paying the loan (from family thankfully rather than a bank) back -_-.
