I went through all the same thoughts when I was looking at Elroq vs Enyaq recently. Went for the Elroq 85 Sportline [Maxx] in the end. Was slightly miffed that things that were standard on the Enyaq were only part of the Maxx package in the Elroq, especially when you throw in DCC (‘Drivers Pack’) which I had to pay extra for on the Elroq. It’s just that the bigger size of the Enyaq wasn’t for me, but both lovely cars, so you takes your choice on that, and each person will obviously have different requirements. The comments on the sound system are interesting. I test drove the Elroq with the standard sound system and wasn’t impressed at all. So that was the other reason for wanting the Maxx package – to get the upgraded sound. I haven’t actually sampled the upgraded sound system – I’m just taking the leap of faith that it will be better!

For the sound system, basically exactly our thoughts. When i say anaemic, i actually mean it – it did sound like the one my dad had in his Sierra in the 80s, minus radio static. We did have a taste of the Canton system in the new Enyaq, but that wasn’t, as mentioned, particularly impressive either – though i did put that down to the fact that we didn’t play with any settings, left it in factory (which, for most sound systems, is “flat”, and it is exactly what it sounded like). The assumption (hope) is that once set up properly, while not being a bang and olufsen system, it’ll be adequate.

Good to see confirmation that you can actually get DCC for the Elroq, salesman did a booboo there and suggested it’s standard on the Sportline cars (it’s not, of course) – and some journalists suggested that only the vRS would get it as an option. So that’s something for us to figure out, whether to go for the 21in wheels, DCC or both. The big wheels do look pretty stunning and 100% (to me) improve the looks, and 255 meats on the rear (235 front) certainly do look chonky.

Same for the size, we drove the Enyaq (incidentally 85x Sportline Maxx), and yeah.. that really didn’t work for us. I’m not even sure we could get it in our parking bay where the charger is without sticking out onto the sidewalk, and it kind of just felt uncomfortable. As in, not physically, uncomfy seats or anything (same as the Elroq anyway) – more in the way a friend comes to visit and sits down in his jacket, if that makes sense? Maybe i’m just weird that way lol. The Elroq felt cozy and we were basically straight at home in there, didn’t happen in the Enyaq.

Bit miffed that we can’t get the new Enyaq metallic green (stunning colour) for the Elroq, but alas. The Meteor Grey is very close to our Moonstone Grey Golf (slightly less blue), so we’re very happy to go with that colour as well.

All moping and miffing aside, there’s nothing that comes even remotely close to the value of the Elroq/Enyaq on the scheme, so to me, it doesn’t make sense looking at anything else. We did intend to drive a Born, Mach E/Capri/Explorer, ID range etc pp – all moot now.
