Sorry if I’m reading this wrong but If the “emergency driver” counts as one of our permanent drivers what’s the point of an emergency driver? I haven’t got any other drivers on my insurance so don’t really know the ins and out of it but just seems odd to me.

Although the ‘temporary driver’ would be one of the three permitted drivers, the number of temporary driver (upto 30 days) changes was basically unrestricted.
I have an inkling from way back, that Motability get charged a fee for adding/deleting drivers from the policy and the associated checks that are part and parcel of it.
It could be the case that some customers may have been changing drivers ‘willy-nilly’ and costing the scheme excessively. Hence now restricting it to four changes of ‘Emergency Driver’ per annum as opposed to more or less unlimited changes of ‘Temporary Driver’.
