I’ve recently been abroad for a family holiday for the first time in some considerable time. The hotel we booked was excellent in terms of accessibility and facilities and the service at all times (24/7) was truly exceptional. The weather was between 24 and 28 celsius for the whole two weeks which reduced my joint pain considerably.

The downside was the cramped flight conditions and the chaotic airport arrival procedure which was reminiscent of ‘herding cattle’ while dodgy characters tried to fleece the tightly packed lines of queuing passengers. The airport was packed even in February, and the wide bodied TUI Boeing 787 that we pre booked our designated seats on back in September last year, was replaced with an elderly and very narrow 737 (no entertainment screens of any description and only three cabin crew) which made for a painful and poorly serviced 5 hours and 45 minutes flight.

I can fully understand why so many of us are choosing holidays in the UK.
